I have a SE P1i using a 512MB M2 card. I am planning to get a larger card, how do I transfer the software and other data on the card to this new card. Is it a straight moving of everything to the new card? Your assistance would be appreciated.

Think maybe the best way to do it is save all the data from your M2 card onto your computer then just transfer it onto the new card.

Or maybe buy a card reader and then just plug phone into computer and transfer over from your 512 card onto your new one.

Cant think of any other way to do it

Hope this helps

I would have thought you would just be able to copy and paste from your old card to your new card.

Dont think that would work. Phone can only take 1 card at a time and the phone memory would be too low to hold all the stuff from the memory card

Correct me if am wrong

Here's what I would do:

Step 1. Copy the contents of the old card to a folder on the PC, paying attentiong to also copy all (if any) hidden and system files.
Step 2. Insert the new card and use the control panel to Format it.
Step 3. Copy the contents of the PC folder to the new card. If any files (not folders) already exist on the card, don't overwrite them.

I did exactly that, went from a 512 to a 4 gig but the p1 wouldnt format the 4 gig, maybe a fake, came in a nice sandisk plastic wrap but got it from ebay , anyway I did format it with my P990 then put it in the p1 and it was recognised.
Then I left the folder structure as is and copied everything from the old P1 512 m2 card and my 4 gig P990 card, a folder at a time to a folder on the pc, then to the new 4 gig m2 .
Works ok for me

The m2 has an adaptor to use with a card reader, it makes it the same size as the memory stick duo.

Don't be daft, I obviously meant copy the files to a computer with a card reader from your old card, then to your new one.

Thank you very much for the responses. I think that from the responses it would appear that copying from the old card in the P1i to the new card in a card reader is workable. I take it that the new card should be formatted in the P1i before use. Hopefully, I will have no problem when I receive my new card.
