I wonder how the new Android platform would fare on the p990? The perfect phone to start testing the recently released SDK on? Less RAM hungry than Symbian/UIQ3?

I doubt that Androide will ever make it to an SE phone as SE turned down Googles offer of joining the program.

Hmmmmm interesting idea. You'd have to be able to overwrite the firmware with one of your own though, its been done with ipods and linux so its not at all impossible.

I think this vid was debunked as a fake, but 64meg is more than enough to get linux running, so its possible. The question is, have SE locked the cpu/firmware so that other OSs are simply not allowed to run?

I think someone uploaded a video of Ubuntu running in P990 sometime back in Youtube...so i dont think its impossible.

yes, that's what I was thinking about - a complete firmware overwrite. Interesting point about SE and cpu lock, don't know the answer!

This, however, is aimed at ultra mobile PCs rather than mobile phones. From what I've seen of it i think the memory requirements would be much too high for the p990 anyway. There have been reports of the web browser needing 50meg+ of ram to open some web pages!

Android will save the S.E. @ss since UIQ has nothing but problems like very tiny programs library, etc

the videos you refere to was a recorded kubuntu desktop.
And the capture was played with the video player.
I'm still not aware and seen any proof of p990 beeing able to run any linux kernel or whatsoever.
I doubt android will ever be an option to us at the p9xx
Shure would love it, android looks very promising.
