So I'm finally upgrading my phone tomorrow with o2 and I've got a few choices. I still like the idea of going with the p1i, as I've always been with SE. I've forgotten a lot of what I learned weeks back about the p1i, but I liked the look of a symbian phone, and it had the unusual keypad as well as a bunch of good reviews.
As far as what I use my phone for, I quite like the idea of having additional apps I can install, and I'll use my phone for 90% phonecalls (I live 200 miles away from where I was brought up and spend quite a lot of time on the phone), 7% texting and 3% browsing. I won't be using it much to replace my email for business purposes or anything like that. I will take a picture or video with it on a VERY rare occasion.
I also like to be able to customise my phone, and using the SE developer tool to make my own themes has been quite cool.
With that in mind, these are the phones I have available to me;
Sony Ericsson P1i
Sony Ericsson K810i
Sony Ericsson K850i
BlackBerry Pearl 8120
BlackBerry Curve 8300
Nokia 7900 Prism
Nokia 6500 Slide
Nokia N81
Nokia N95
O2 Xda Orbit
O2 Xda Trion
Samsung G600
Any suggestions? Any there I should avoid completely? Thanks to anyone who can give me some advice!

I can only talk about one phone - the Sony Ericsson P1i
This is a good choice for what you need, and the full qwerty keyboard is really useful for texting and web.
The system is flexible, you can install applications, games, Java, listen to music, see videos, and TOUCH SCREEN everything!
The battery is good, the camera is OK, built in applications are fine, and with the last firmware is very stable. Highly recommended.

Never used s60, but going from a touchscreen device to a non-touch s60 has never appealed.
The xda's are a question of "do you like windows mobile" the latest ones seem quite good from what i've seen of them. They have good integration, decent app support these days, probably among the best in terms of hardware available and features (apart from the newer nokia n series).
I haven't used the newer blackberries, but did have an older one. They are undeniably basic in appearance, but highly usable. The in built apps are stable, well thought out if rather plain in looks.
I myself have a p1, upgraded from a p910 which itself was an upgrade from a blackberry (7230 i think it was).
All in all I think its gotta be down to your personal preference, each has its merits and its failures. The nokias are well featured have a fairly good rep for stability now - ok maybe not the n95

- the backberries are getting some excellent reviews now, but multimedia is somewhat weak compared to Nokia and SE. The XDAs are windows (need i say more?) which you are either gonna love or hate, and not particularly well supported by themes. The p1 has old hardware, somewhat love or hate OS and UI and a definite love or hate keyboard, BUT has probably the best theming support of the lot.
Sorry, I wasn't much help there, was i?

i use n95`s for personal and work and have had no problems with them. A guy i work with uses a Vodafone G600 and does nothing but complain about it including the message tones not being loud enough,(apparently you cant add more or so he was informed by Vodafone store Oxford st) the picture quality not being very good and the call quality is poor (could be down to Vodafone)

What do you need?
If you want touch screen, for me is either P1 or Windows.
The only real advantage I see on having Windows machine is the processor speed and screen resolution, which is good if you watch a lot of movies. Also if you use cr4cked software, in Windows you are in paradise. Office stuff is also a bit superior.
In all the rest, I believe the P1 is the phone to go.
It's a small all-in-1 phone, very stable and with great battery.
The P1 keyboard is a thing you take 1 week to get used to, but after that you become inlove with it.
The P1 interface is also much more intuitive than the Windows, because it's a phone->pda, not a pda->phone like Windows.
What also can I say?
Follow your heart!

Avoid the N95, unless very poor build quality and a rapidly-draining battery are your forte. On paper it's a killer but in practice absolutely terrible. The K800/810i are basic call/text/photo phones which if that's all you want do the job fantastically. Personally I'd get the new Nokia 6500 slide if I didn't want a smartphone. If you do want to do more than text, call and take photos I'd go for the P1i. It's very well built, the keyboard is exceptional and the features of the phone awesome. Get it on a 12 month contract though! Nothing worse than having to keep a phone for 18 months. I'm with O2 and 12 month contracts are still possible despite them pushing the more lucrative (for them) 18 month jobbies!
