Hi.

I'm new but I repair phones for a living and after checking out a couple of forums elsewhere about stripping down the k850 I thought I would give it a go as people were having problems with dust under the screen. I stripped one down due to water damage and got it working again so hopefully this helps.

I opened the catch for the battery, sim, etc. and loosened off the two tork screws underneath on the keypad side. I then got a small plastic clip (Ipod ones are good) to wedge the top half of the housing off. This reveals one whole half of the phone. From here it is very similar to the K800i when broken down.

Not many will need to do this as SE have identified the problem with dust as a fault so will fix it under warranty but I done this for someone because of water damage. It's pretty straight forward and when I reassembled it, nothing was on the screen and on the lens. I don't have any images to show but I hope this helps someone.

Thanks. This will come in handy to a lot of people. Some pictures would be nice from someone who has managed a housing change etc.

Thanks, I'll upload pictures tomorrow night.

The plastic clip I used to hinge open the phone is a small green plastic clip which mostly comes supplied when you order batteries, housings for an ipod. These are good for phones like these so that no marks are left behind on the handset if done by say, a metal screwdriver.
