If you are using some tool like Swiss Manager to auto-cleanup idle applications, you must include the IM in the exception list.
If not, maybe the OS auto-closed the application to free memory for other applications. This happened a lot in the P990.

check if IM+ has an option to put itself has system aplication...that would prevent it being closed by the OS

That happens to me also - no Swiss Manager on the p1i so I guess its a IM+ bug

Switch to Agile Messenger. It can turn itself as a System App and is almost imposible to the system to shut it down (never happened on my P990), and now is updated and works very good (sending pics and voice messages). Not tried IM+ on my new P1, just using Agile Messenger.

The problem is the known lack of memory. To run it, you have to uncheck "include in end all" so the SMP can't close it and be sure not to run anything else in this time. That's why it closes down. This happened to me all the time on my P990i and I sold it for that!

Even if you uncheck that option, if there is a severe lack of ram, the system will shut it down. My best advice, buy a P1i. In the meantime, switch to agile messenger.
