It all depends on what you, personally, want from your next phone.

The iPhone isn't perfect, and has a few missing features that are standard on many other phones (3G, MMS and video recording mostly).

However, it has a larger number of features that you're not going to see on rivals phones for some time. Or at least not so well implemented.

The multi-touch user interface is its best and most innovative feature, plus its iPod, video, YouTube, and email features are currently better than the rivals.

It's going to take a while for them to catch-up in that respect, and by the time they do, iPhone 2 is likely to be not far off.

However, many rival phones have better cameras, 3G, MMS etc already.

Whether or not to get one can only be decided by you, after evaluating what exactly you want to do with your next phone, and whether there are any 'must have' features that the iPhone currently doesn't have.

You may decide that the UI and features it does have are more important to you than the features it doesn't. However, no phone is ever going to be perfect and do everything exactly as you want it.

You also have to consider the cost of the iPhone plus minimum 18-month contract (unless you buy a hacked, unlocked one with no warranty or upgradability).

For what its worth, I decided to stick with my Sony Ericsson W610, but buy an iPod touch which does most of what the iPhone does except make calls and SMS.

Well said mate but what I can stress on is that neither of the devices we have are perfect. I reapeat No phone is perfect.

Is it true with the iPhone you can't send things through bluetooth?

The Iphone is great in many ways, but right now there are two BIG problems with it -

(1) It's not finished. They've held back some significant features which are obviously coming in either a future update, or a future model.

(2) It's far, far, far too expensive. Right now they're mopping up the mugs, but within months (if not weeks) the price will right down.

The upshot is you can either wait for the Iphone to become better value (through more features and/or lower price) or you can get one of the much better value alternatives available right now.

My advice is not to get the iphone. Its too expensive.Just exercise some patience...something better would come up in the next 3- 6months,either from apple or from other makers, that would beat the iphone, have more features and be cheaper.

Surely that's each person to decide? What's too expensive for one person, is quite acceptable to another...

That is always the case with any technology. 3-6 months after that, something else will come along that's even better again. If you always wait for the next, better thing, you will never buy anything.

Yes Lunion... that is true... and as Jools says... there are other things it can not do... and well documented.... but... it is extremely well polished operating system... very fast... despite the things we take for granted with other phones... that said... I love my iPhone...
