Two years ago, walkman phones revolutionized music playing in handsets. Great sonic experience is synonymous with walkman phones.
But now, competition got stiffer. And walkman phones are lagging behind in sound quality with the advent of digital audio chips in nokia and samsung music phones.
does not put audio chip in their walkman phones so as not to compete with SONY walkmans? How do you rate Walkman sonic experience compared to those of XpressMusic and Ultra Music?

I don't really have experience from the other two you mention, but I really like the SE Walkman 2.0 player sound. I guess it's a lot about the headphones. The "walkman plugs" fits me just perfect!

That is where dedicated audio chips (with its sound enhancing capabilities) will be appreciated. For instance, Eldar says that the samsung i450 sonic experience is second to none in the market (due to the B&O IceMobile amplifier that creates a mind blowing sound experienc)

Well as has been said many times before Walkmans seem to be little more than just branding now where as initially they really were ground breaking.
I really wouldn't say HPM-70's are quality headphones either.
What i really find sad is that originally Ericsson phones used to have B&O microphones and speakers, just how great would it be if SE Walkman phones still had B&O still instead of their rivals.

helpful also. HPM-70 aint all that good I agree Dogmann.

president should take that as a warning since the former
president had failed to think about that
and btw, i hate how the former pres......nt diversify music phones to cam phones as before that SE is highly distinguished as innovative.

Technically your are of course correct, but aren't all in ear types also called Headphones? i have never heard of anyone saying i am going to buy some new or better earphones have you?

We'll I personally dont think its only a problem with the chipset, the interfacing software is crap too. My Motorola ROKR E6 sounded crap until few modders ported rockbox and xmms onto the ROKR and now its as good as my Smasung U600. The TyTyn2 which although does'nt have a independant chipset has good playback with the PocketMusic player.
I think they've got to re-think both the software as well as hardware bit on the SE Walkman phones if they want to challenge the opposition.

pure audio quality isnt what makes or breaks a "music phone". what (most) people want are good looking devices that are easy to use and dont sound "bad".
would anyone in here seriously rate the iPod as the best sounding MP3 player out there? it isnt, but its still the best selling (AFAIK) and most recognizable of all digital music players in the world.
the same could be argued in the case of music phones. providing "the best" audio quality is not necessarily the most important thing. its all about branding and "user experience", like it or not.
