Hi Everyone,

Just recently changed my O2 tariff so that I can access the internet via GPRS/WAP, and have the following problem (or can I do this at all?)?

I have added my email accounts to messages, and can send and receive perfectly well via WLAN (so I know its not email settings which are the problem).

I can also view websites pefectly well using O2 wap settings and Opera browers.

So, when I try and check emails when out and about, the message ''establishing network connection via internet' comes up, and the little globe flashes and connects but it just times out.

Any ideas and help would be most gratefully appreciated - and sorry if this subject has been covered before.

Thanks
Sarge

You are trying WAP settings while retrieving emails from the account while you need the HTTP settings to be used for this purpose.

I'd check the order of your internet accounts in the internet group, you should put the o2 gprs account higher than any o2 wap or o2 mms accounts.

If you have a pay and go o2 sim then full internet access via 3g/gprs is impossible, they only allow full web access on contract sims. It is, however, possible to use o2 gprs to pick up pop3 and imap email - I have done so myself.

I have an o2 contract sim.

what is the difference between o2 GPRS and o2 wap settings. I have been to the O2 site and had the settings txt to my mobile phone, and I see no difference between them.

It gets sent as O2 WAP GPRS
wap.o2.co.uk
o2wap
password
proxy 193.113.200.195
Port: 8080

Thanks for your help so far.

Its the APN is all, mobile.o2.co.uk, maybe the login too.

Check here

http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html

It should list all the settings you need. Using the WAP apn will prevent email from connecting, simply because that apn and login limits your access to wap only.
