Hi,
Can anyone explain to me what the situation is regarding Japanese language support and SE's smartphones ?
As far as I can make out there are language packs available for the P1i, though not Japanese. Presumably these would install the fonts required for the language and enable the phone to be operated in that language, but I guess they would also allow applications access to the fonts ? All a bit academic for Japanese though as there is no such language pack.
Another option is to install Psiloc Crystal Japanese. What does this do ? Again, does it allow all applications to access a Japanese font ? Is it the equivalent of an SE language pack, but developed by a third party ? What about on-screen writing (even just hiragana / katakana would be useful) ? Does anyone use this software and have an opinion on it (it's a non-trivial amount of money to purchase, so it better be good !) ?
I see that the pdf+ website says "The Japanese Character Collection dll will be made available later this year." Same questions really, (would it be just for pdf+ or all apps) ?
Finally, I see that the Oxford Beginner's Japanese dictionary is available for the P1i :
http://sony-ericsson-p1i-soft[....]duct.html?p=11&l=1&pid=148&i=1
though it requires the Psiloc software. Anyone used that sucessfully ? Any opinions ?
Finally, can I write Java code that will be able to print Japanese text for a Symbian phone ? I guess J2ME delegates available fonts to the platform.
It's a bit frustrating that SE don't support Japanese for the P1i but do support Russian, Greek, Chinese etc.
Note, I don't have an SE symbian phone, but was thinking of getting one, and Japanese support would be very useful.
Thanks !
