Firstly, thanks to everyone who's replied to my p1i threads before, you've been a great help! I just had a couple of other questions about it at the moment.

- Is it possible to quickly deactivate GPRS / GSM on the fly? I've accidentally connected at some point by forgetting to lock the keys, and the only way I can see of stopping it connecting is by actually changing the server settings so that they're wrong, and then changing it back again to connect, which is a bit of a pest.

- Is there any way to connect to a WIFI router which is set to b/g? My router is set to this and I seem to remember reading somewhere that p1i's can have problems with it and work better with wireless 'b', however i also understand that g is faster and I use my home pc for gaming, and connect wirelesly to the router. I seem to be able to connect to the wifi but not able to go anywhere online with it.

- Any other recommended applications for it?

Hello - not sure what you mean on the first, but presumably internet access? Not sure of a quick way you can stop this, will have a think...

As for WiFi, my router is set to B and G as I have a B only Netgear MP101, and the P1 connects fine. I think I've read that WiFi tends to run at the speed of the lowest speed connected device, so if the P1 is connected your whole WiFi network would then drop to 11Mbit. Not actually tested this though!

I don't think there's an easy way to deactivate GSM GPRS, etc.

As for the second post, having a b/g router shouldn't be a problem for you to access the net. If you can't access, then there must be some other issue preventing, like passcode, or settings. Also, maybe eventhough your router is b/g, maybe its set to run at only wireless g. That can easily be changed/checked under your router settings.

Hope that info helps.

jeemer, that happened to me as well the first day I got my P1i... it kept connecting to GPRS...

The simple fix is to enable "Show connection dialog" in the internet settings. It's inconvenient, but saves on GPRS charges if you don't have an unlimited data plan.

You create a new group in the Internet Accounts menu... call it "Free Internet" and add all your unlimited data accounts here. Make this your preferred group.

Then create another group called "Paid Internet" or "GPRS Internet" or whatever you wanna name it. Then add your GPRS account here.

Whenever your phone needs an internet connection, a dialog box appears with a drop down menu of how you want it to connect... select the appropriate group (Free Internet, GPRS Internet) then the P1i will run through ALL internet accounts in that group to try to connect.

Thanks guys. Dunno what was up with my router, I'd added the mac address of the phone back when I got it and it just wouldn't do anything when it connected, tried yesterday and it worked just fine!

Thanks a ton for the suggestion about creating the groups as well as the connection prompt, that's just what I was after!
