Hey Symbianworld... congrats on your purchase.

I'm a new P1i owner as well, but long time UIQ/P-series user (I was one of the first to give an internet review for the P800 actually)

The biggest advantage of a UIQ device is that you can totally customize its functions with the software you need.

There is no real "best software" for it since it would depend on what you want to do on your phone.

If you browse software catalog, they have a list of bestsellers that you may want to check out.

Personally, I've always liked the Handy Apps bundle, I had one on my P800, P910, and now my P1. The suite includes, Handy Day, Handy Safe, Handy Weather, etc... I use Handy Day and Handy Safe the most.

My recent addition is Easy Search. The older UIQ 2 devices had a great search function that somehow was removed in the new UIQ 3 devices. The search used to work in all fields of your addressbook.. very handy if, like me, you add notes to a contact of how you met, who introduced you, etc... in the search field, you can just type "met through Robert" and all the contacts whom you added a note that "I met him through Robert" would show up.

Easy Search adds this function back to UIQ 3.

If you have a Bluetooth GPS module, then GPS mapping would be a great software addition as well.

Some people keep their expenses and spreadsheets on their P1i as well. I'm happy with QuickOffice, although I think there are other word doc, excel editors out there.

So, the options are almost limitless... just narrow down what you really want to do on your phone.

Oh, I also like Mobipocket reader... well, I liked it on my P910i ... gonna download it for my P1i later after I re-register all my books with my new IMEI.

Here are a few I have installed:

TomTom (using the P1i as gps navigation device)
DreamConnect (substitute for the default contacts app)
EasySearch (allows you to search through contacts, calendar, etc at once)
Opera Mini 4 (great for browsing and free)
HandyClock (if you wish to have more control over your alarms)
PicoDrive (play old sega megadrive games on your P1i)

What's the advantage of Opera Mini over the Opera browser that's built into the phone?

AquaCalendar, a great application. Beats Handy Day any time. Handy Day uses the built-in PIM and inherits all the flaws, whereas AcquCalendar uses its own database, and is much more stable.
