> Supported languages in K850i; service provider firmware dependent?

Spent two days searching the forum, but can't find an answer, so here goes:
I have a new T-Mobile branded SE K850i. Happy with the phone in general, but it has one big drawback for me. I need to be able to text in French, and so would like to be able to set the "writing language" in the text options to French so that the correct dictionary gets pulled in.
All the supported languages are Eastern European (plus English and German). This goes for the general phone setup as well as the text writing language.
SE support give a one-liner brush off saying it is not possible to install additional languages. T-Mobile support was infinitely superior, as I believed they understood my plight, but still no resolution.
I know somebody with an Orange branded K850i, which does support Western European languages. It seems that the defined set of languages in the phone is determined by the service provider and SE put that set into firmware build, and then it’s cast in stone. Unbelievably for such a complex computing unit, there’s no way to simply download a new language/dictionary.
So. I think my sure solution is to flash an Orange build of the K850i firmware into my phone… but I can’t find one! I can see the O2 and Virgin builds on DaVinci.
Question 1: does the O2 firmware build for K850i have French and English languages installed?
Question 2: if I “rebrand” the O2 firmware into my phone will the French and English languages be correctly installed?
Question 3: does DaVinci use genuine SE firmware builds? …and how reliable is DaVinci Team (sorry guys, but I’ve no experience of you!)
Question 4: DaVinci has firmware R1CA037 available now. How stable is it?
Thanks in advance…
Simon.
