a) When I sync my calendar entries from Outlook, the Calendar application fails to start up saying 'not enough memory'. I'm running the latest WG1 firmware that I upgraded to just yesterday. No. of entries: 1500+. It seems the Calendar application cannot handle entries beyond a certain number.
I did a master reset and sync'ed with Outlook a couple of times. The bug is entirely reproducible.
Any suggestions? I need a solution pronto!!
b) Is it possible to get the same week view in the Calendar application that was obtained in the P900? 7 vertical bars, one for each day, with rectangles for each calendar entry on the bars? Placing the cursor over the rectangle would provide details of the entry. That kind of bird's eye view of the week is pretty useful, and the P1i only gives a text listing of entries, that too only as much as fit on the screen, leaving out a lot of entries that you can see only by going to the day view.

1500 entries, what for ?. That would be six times a day every working day for a year !.
Long term medication perhaps ? jk
If thats the bug in the calendar you are on about I dont think it will bother anyone else.

a) Can you make different calender instances of smaller sizes and import those? Split it up so to say so you import for example 500 entries at a time instead of 1500 at once? Perhaps that helps...
b) not with the default calendar. But there are 2 or 3 other calendar apps which might suite you more

Lol - this is supposed to be a business phone, right? 1500 entries is nothing special. I have 1800+ and that's without most of my meeting schedule for next year (I deal with a lot of boards and committees). My Tytn II certainly doesn't break a sweat with that, and to be fair I never noticed a problem with my M600i either, but thinking about it I may have had a more restricted sync window in my PC Suite settings. Maybe it would have choked if I'd allowed it to sync the whole thing? If so, that's not good at all.

Well, it is SUPPOSED to be a business phone, but not for some who are goofing off, eh, @Log?
1500 entries over the past 3 years is nothing. Besides, there are recurring entries, I guess the in-built calendar application is creating one instance per entry ad inifinitum and crapping out. ....
Anyway, AquaCalendar works! Perfectly!! Hooray!!!!

. Indeed .
I must admit i dont use the calendar so wasnt aware of its long term multiple year usage so 1500 entries could be 1 per day for 5 years.
I just looked to see when the calendar runs out, I got to 2078 and give up cos Ill be dead by then. Or i could set the reminder for my 114th birthday lol.

Hi all
Sorry i have to agree with Anil Gidwani and others 1,500 entries is nothing and i just don't get why there is a problem. When i got my new Device i synced 2years past entries and 1 year future which came to 4,958 entries are you saying the P1 a Flagship business device couldn't handle this amount of Data?
That 's just ridiculous as i have a Multimedia smart phone not a business smart phone and it does it with no problems at all. Calendar entries really take very little space so just what is the problem?
Marc

I had to purchase AquaCalendar, which works 98% of the time. Shows that the built-in PIM in SE's flagship product has not been tested before release.
Caveat: Even a fine program like AquaCalendar has kernexec'ed on me today on the P1i, though. So business users beware: 990's memory problems are still lurking.
BTW, the built-in Calendar application on the N7710 had far more features than even AquaCalendar, and I didn't have to pay a single cent extra for it. And it never crashed!
Sony-Ericsson, are you listening?

I have to say I preferred the calendar app in UIQ2, on my P800 and P910, over the version in UIQ3 - it felt more solid, gave more pleasing views most of the time, and I definitely remember having all my data on there without issue. That said, the old PC Suite around in those days was notoriously unreliable for syncing - the current version is a lot better.

You've only reproduced the behaviour on your specific setup, with your specific calendar- base. If we're going to reproduce the bug, we need to know what sort of programs you're running(on the phone), what sort of sync- solution you are using(sync through the pc- suite, sync through the external sync program?), whether there's any special types of content involved, whether there are special fields in the calendar, etc - in order to copy the bug on other setups.
But I mean, I add entries to my calendar pretty often, and I apparently have more than 1500 - so I don't think the bug is related to the number of entries. My guess would be on a lookup on the contact- list, or a name- conflict of some sort. Perhaps a duplicated entry on the sim- card. I've seen something like this before(only on external lookups, such as in the phone- app, and so on, not on the contact- app), but never had any problems after I stopped importing the contacts I had on the sim- card after the firmware- updates.
Another option is if the calendar app would struggle if it had to open a large number of new entries at the same time. But since you had the bug on the other calendar- app as well, we can probably strike that one out(and yes, it would use the same ical base).
Also, the associated notes could be a problem. If you have many of those, that might be a thing to look into.
It's also the time- zones. If you have set different time- zones from different calendar apps, and the outlook translates the timezones for you on sync, this might be a source of an error (I'm not sure how the calendar handles duplicates on the sync? Is that a dialogue of some sort, or is just the latest entry overwritten?)
Since usually the only time the calendar won't open is if the database is corrupt in some way, after a failed backup restore or sync.
So it's something else than the number of entries - and I really want to think you're not wasting our time right now.
Any suggestions? I need a solution pronto!!
...Look, asshole. We're doing this for free, to learn more about the phone and how to get it to work well. - You're not contributing very much.
