My P1i is now extremely stable, and I've been fiddling with it to configure it to my requirements.
I always prefer using the virtual keyboard, but find it disconcerting that I have to select the virtual keyboard for each text input field. Is there any way to get the virtual keyboard to be the default entry device for input fields?
Also, is there a way to increase the screen lock timeout? My screen fades within 5 seconds of no tap, and locks pretty soon thereafter.
Any help appreciated.

You can change the screen dim from backlight in the device settings under control panel. The trick is to change the handheld mode from auto to on. You can then specify how long the device waits to turn the screen off. I dont think you can change how long it waits to dim though - what you do to stop this is to change the brightness for handheld (dimmed) to the same percentage as handheld (normal). With powersave on the screen simply turns off after the timeout without dimming.

Wow, Anil, I never thought I would hear you say that about the P1! I'm glad that you're getting somewhere with the phone and hope you will soon think it's not so bad after all. Nowhere near perfect but with many positive points. Enjoy it!

Thanks, guys.
Yes, the phone does have many positive points as well, and although not truly content, I intend to use it as optimally as I can.

Not the right attitude though. If you ain't happy with it, you should kick up a fuss with SE and demand action.
Myself, I love my p1, i think its great - but if you have issues with it, you shouldn't just put up with it.
