I asked a similar question in the tytn II vs tytn forum.
Now i am considering tytn II over e90 but i already have tytn with me and quite happy with the handset but should i go for tytn II...
I can live without the gps and tilt screen .. what i would like to know is about the following.. I would be grateful if some one could answer few of my questions
How does TYTN II do when we compare with tytn
1. Camera
2. Speaker phone
3. Sound quality of the phone ( small speakers)
4. Speed
5. Music quality through the speakers
6.Battery life

I guess the software wise tytn II is same as tytn as i have a custom made rom wm6 in my tytn

1. Camera

Quality-wise the TyTN II 3 megapixel camera is only a little better than the TyTN's 2 megapixel ditto. One big problem with TyTN II's camera is that it switches to night mode automatically if it detects insufficent light. (Sufficent light is outside at noon on a cloudfree summer's day.)

2. Speaker phone

Similar to TyTN.

3. Sound quality of the phone ( small speakers)

Similar to TyTN.

4. Speed

Sometimes faster, and sometimes slower than TyTN. The TyTN II suffers from lack of 3D and multimedia acceleration so if you play lots of videos or play 3D games then forget the TyTN II. (Rumours at XDA-developers.com say that HTC is NOT planning to fix this!!!)

5. Music quality through the speakers

Probably the same as the TyTN, i.e. not very good. If you care about your music then you use stereo earphones/earplugs. On this side the TyTN II is better with it's proper support for A2DP (Bluetooth stereo).

6.Battery life

About the same as the TyTN with similar usage. There's potential to drain the TyTN II battery faster if you use the builtin GPS.

Wrong! Read my comment at point 4 above. I had a JASJAM (i-mate branded TyTN) and it sure was much better at playing videos. The TyTN II suchs on this.

hi mate,

if you dont need either the tilt screen and GPS, i'd stay stick with the hermes for now.....

1. camera just slightly better, but people dont buy TYTN II for its camera
2. speakerphone is about the same, no improvement, lack the kick in the bass
3. sound quality? i suspect they use the same hardware
4. speed, the qualcomm isn't snappier than samsung, only the extra 64MB RAM and 128 ROM that makes it more versatile
5. music through speaker? i feel no difference
6. battery life, is about the same, if not worse than hermes i believe......not very sure, cos there are times when i dont need to charge it for 5 consecutive days, until it runs flat

but it's all just my opinion, may be others can help better

@AbuBasim and jakontil,
Thank you for the nice reviews...and now i am stranded.. i have no where to go from tytn now.... I love this device but since i have using it for quite sometime i wanted to move but there seems to be no option. i Actually got an E90 and had to sent it back ( less than 10 % satisfied. Few things like screen, speaker phone and bluetooth seemed better but defintely hated the PDA part and minimal 3rd party support)

I am going to wait for another 2-3 months for the ipaq610c to come or may be something else in between..

Good that my bank has raised the interest rates on the saving !!!!

OK i can understand it may not of been your cup of tea but minimal 3rd party support? you really can't be serious or you didn't look there is tons 3rd party software both free and paid that will let you achieve virtually anything you may need. From a Ftp server to WiFi browsing of you home PC with full file transfer and there are two excellent Pim replacements and at least another 800+ plus more softarwe titles available.

As i said you may not of liked it but lack of 3rd party software i really can't understand what you may of need that you couldn't find.

Marc

@doggman
Well said...
And those s60 apps usually work, while 'some' wm apps, clever as they look on 'paper', often dont work except on the one phone phone they were developed for/on! I quite like my tytn, and hate my n95's dpad, really hate it, but this 'lack of 3rd party support' was rubbish even when I bought my 1st e61 a year and a half ago!

I remember when the N91 1st came out as AFAIK it was one of the 1st s60v3 OS9 phones which include 3250 and N80 and people complained about a lack of 3rd party app support but since then there has been a BIG improvement in s60v3 app support and now there are LOADS of apps for s60v3 phones like E90, you must just find the right places to get them.
