i was watching the news, and they said by the end of next year, you will be able to use ANY phone (except the iphone) on verizon wireless. it was a SHoRT article and thats almost all they said. but that means they would have to support CDMA and GSM on the network? that seems weird to me...
this may be on here... but i heard GOOGLE was going to get into the mobile market... not making phones, but merging with another current company to own part of it or something... ugh, i need to find articles!
okay okay, heres what i found... it says it has to be compatable with their network... this may be the google thing i was talking about too...

Verizon Wireless said today that it would allow its customers to use any phone or software on its network, becoming the first major wireless carrier to announce such a move.
The giant wireless phone company unveiled its plan under growing pressure from customers and Internet giant Google, which have been pushing for greater access to wireless communication systems. Most wireless customers must use the phones and software sold in combination with their wireless network plan.
Verizon's more than 63 million customers will have the option to use devices made by other companies by the end of 2008, the company said. The devices must be compatible with Verizon's network and meet minimal technical standards the company will make available to software and product developers early next year
"This is a transformation point in the 20-year history of mass-market wireless devices, one which we believe will set the table for the next level of innovation and growth," Verizon Wireless President and Chief Executive Lowell McAdam said in a statement.
Earlier this year, Google and a consortium of 33 companies, including cellphone makers, phone carriers and other technology leaders, said they planned to offer free software to power cellphones that would hit the market in coming months. Through the Open Handset Alliance, Google wants to force the industry to give phone users better Web access.
Google has also reportedly been considering to bid on valuable wireless airwaves the government will auction in January.

Yeah read that too. However this is NOT for GSM technology only for the 'looser phone on looser networks that are NOT GSM' as the rest of the WORLD is. So who cares actually Verizon and Sprint
