Frankly speaking I honest dont know bt I think: If it a contract like that the warranty must be spread over that period. However it can still be eighteen months and the warranty may depend on the the service you are being given. Lets say maybe it last for the normal twelve months. To conclude I think it may depend.

Dont think the network would cover the repair
Think that would go down to the insurance on the phone

I was under the impression (though I could be completely wrong!) that electronic goods and mobile phones were covered by the TWO year warranty in the EU.
EDIT:
Just checked SE website (UK) and downloaded a pdf document that states their phones are covered by a TWO year warranty.
Don't know the policy for Samsung/Nokia/Motorola etc... Check yourself.

the warranty is usually only the manufacturers warranty. in most cases, thats 12months. thats how it is here. then you can go through insurance.

My message only applies to EU. Other parts of the world may only carry a ONE year warranty.
Please check your local region/continent.

Two years could be much better as opposed to one. I bmught my motorola from one indian dealer here in February this year. It had problems in May and he said he gives one month warranty.

I said What? Yes one month, he said. My response was simple as I said "well sir see you in court."
