Ok a little History about this picture, this woman in the picture her name was Amai Chaza (Amai means mother in Shona a language used in Zimbabwe). She went to have her picture taken at a photographer in Zimbabwe but went dressed in her Roman Catholic outfit, The outfit you see in the picture is NOT the outfit she went wearing. Nor was she holding this bible that you will see in her Hands.

But I think the thing you wondering the most is what is she standing on? This woman was a very spiritual woman you could say a saint and was known to cast out evil spirits and heal many people. She was quite famous over there. This photo as you can tell is quite a few decades old, if memory serves me right somewhere between 1950's I will get the correct date.

This photo was handed down to my mother and also bears the original marking at the back (photographers those days used to use a stamp) as you can tell its been battered and bruised hence the tape and stitching.

But the words in Greek they again appeared after the photographer developed the film so to recap, she wasnt wearing that outfit, nor was there a halo around her head, there was no devil that she was stood and I doubt photoshop was around those days.

So whats your guys views on this

As far as my Greek goes, I think it means Saint [enter Catholic version of name - Haralampi here].
EDIT: Catholic version - Saint Charalampus.

Thats interesting the words on the right are similar if not exact my guess that is the Charalampus, but then do the same words on the left mean saint in both pictures?



I am not catholic but is this a common pose for the pictures as they are quite similar.

I am pretty sure that's "Saint", as АПОΣ may be an old version of a'g'os, which means "Saint" in Greek.

I don't quite understand. When she had the photo taken, was she seated for a normal portrait photo and it came out like this or did she pose in that way and the other stuff appeared?

I'm not being funny, I'm genuinely interested in this kind of stuff, as you might know from the 'post strange/scary pictures' thread

I will get the full story about this from my mum when I speak to her again but my understanding was she was standing up but not posed like that.

I have just found a book which I will try and purchase in the coming days and probably paste the extracts on here. It details the life of the woman. I also found out that when this photo was taken 1961 the same year she died.

If anyone has access to this online library try could you please contact me that will be great to get this book.

The only other possibility that it isnt her and some one else? I doubt very much Greek would be used on a Zimbabwean picture what would the purpose be, unless she was a key member of the Greek church? It may have been someone else
