I'm looking for a new phone to replace both my W810 (with a broken camera ), and my Zen Vision M.

Main points of interest are:

Good, low noise, and auto focus camera. Doesn't need to be over 3.2 mpx.
Decent navigation/menu systems
Preferably Symbian
Better sound quality than my W810 (less hiss and popping and shit in the background)
Reasonably small (I.e. Not P990i size )
Built durably.
Battery able to last a day of heavy use (over 200 txts, probably an hour and a half of calls)
Ability to address AT LEAST 4GB of memory, preferably 8GB, for future expandability

The N73 has caught my eye, and the Zeiss optics really give it an edge over others in it's price range. Anyone with this phone can comment on how the camera interface works? What about the media player? Is it possible to update the phones firmware at home, or do you still have to take it into a Nokia dealer liek back in the day?

Anything else of similar specs from other manufacturers?

Not really looking at the SE side of things, as they seem to be focusing on pretty, functionless phones for inflated prices, and the lack of auto focus in all but a few models really hurts them in my eyes.

It'll have to be in my price range of about $500-550 NZ. That's the price of an N73 to help equate it to overseas pricing.

I know there's a million reviews of these out there, but I'm looking for some first hand experience, and able to point out any quirks in them

High noise quality? Sorry, I don't understand...

Edit: And "Loise noise"? I'm really confused now

I used to have an N73 and trust me its a lovely phone with a nice camera. I dont have it now as i no longer have a contract it was a while ago. But in good light the camera is i would say very good indoors its like most camera phones a little noise but its not that bad if putting night mode on. The camera menus are great easy to use with plenty to play around with and the view finder on the is nice and big with a lovely clear screen. I prefered it to K800i despite it only having LED not flash. The phone is well built though it is plastic and the sound quailty for music is very good. I am quite a fussy person when it comes to quality and trust me dont listen to what people say about SonyEricsson and them saying their the only good phones for sound and pictures quality they are not. Not saying their rubbish but their not the only good manufactuer out there. I prefer Nokia. Oh and battery on N73 was much better than N80 and N95 even a review in What Mobile thought so. Its now cheap too.

Well the n73 still is a good choice. Been using it for six months now. I had some issues with the joystick but the camera is great and the sound quality is good as well. And yes, I have updated the firmware at home.

The battery lasts quite long unless you are constatntly using gprs like me. For calls and texting, it should last two days. Some minor quirks are the inability to multitask properly as most of the apps are resource hungry and some app close when you open the other. Apart from this, the phone is a great buy.

Pls chk my old review here.

The Carl Zeiss optics mean nothing.

thats right. imo cz branded nikia cameras offer very poor quality, but the normal nokia 2 mp cams are very good ( without cz ), i made once great pix with n70 for example.

Why not 5700? Better media player, better sound quality, faster processor, updated symbian, better screen,
