Hi there!

I'm considering getting this Bluetooth HS for my W910i phone, but couldn't find any "real" review about it, only reviews that list the features.

I did find some reviews for the DS970 on Amazon though, the reviewer wasn't happy with the bluetooth reception, he said that if the phone's in the bag on his back and the headset's hanging around his neck it wouldn't work, which is in my opinion pretty bad:(

Normally I have my phone in my jeans' pocket, and the headset will of course be somewhere around my neck, would that work well?

I'd really appreciate it if someone who actually has the headset could share their opinions on this, many thanks in advance!

Thanks man, that was the first real review I read about the headset, but it doesn't really answer my question directly.
Although the reviewer said the music quality is good, but I've no idea what his testing condition was:(

Well I have the DS970's (nearly identical to the DS980's) and with my P990i the maximum volume was too low and a got signal breakup especially when I put my hand around the DS970 or turned around so my body was between the phone & headset. It's been stuck in the draw 10 months but I recently bought the W960i and it's amazing! The volume goes louder (enough for me now) and I've never lost the signal yet. Even with my hand around the DS970 & body between that and the phone the signal never drops! Don't know why unless the W960i has stronger bluetooth transmitter or something.

Sound wise they are better than any iPod standard phones and even better than my Sony EX71's especially for comfort.

Don't think you'll be disappointed with the sound & bass is excellent. Only downside now really is the 5-6hrs battery life. Would imagine the DS980's will be same or even better.

Now have a set of DS980's in addition to my DS970's.

Sounds the same (i.e. excellent), display is a little longer than the DS970's (more characters), the single/multi connect switch of the DS970's has been replaced with a toggle switch for menu I think (still to play ).

Looks great & the wires/straps are better than the DS970's. Prefer the all in one button/mic. It also hangs better around neck. The DS970 tends to want to rest on its side rather than its back.

You get the extra features of phone integration with your contacts that the DS970 doesn't have and time display.

Only downside is that I've now gone from the silver/Gray P990i which to DS980 matches perfectly, to the Glossy Black W960i which the existing DS970 matches.

Would have prefered the mirror effect of the DS980 to be more black than grey but thats my only issue & its not exactly a deal breaker!!

...

Extra

Volume goes a bit louder, the W960i & DS980 are a loud enough combination.

There is a bit more delay transfering the sound to the DS980 once bonded. I get a second or two of sound coming out of the W960i before the DS980 gets it whereas with the DS970 its instant with no sound out of the W960i

I've only tried the DS970 with the P990i, and the DS970 & DS980 with W960i mobile phone but also used with the PS3 & PC's with built-in Bluetooth.

With the P990i the signal with the DS970 would drop and was affected by obstruction through body or hand yet with the W960i both are fanatstic with no drop of signal. As I mentioned above, the W960i must have a stronger BT or something.

As an example, I was about 8m away from my mobile two offices down from mine with my body between phone & DS980 and had no dropped signal!!!

Sound is really fantastic through both the DS970 & DS980's. I tend to use the normal setting for music with phone music players and the bass is perfectly adequate. The P990i had MegaBass but I found it muffled the sound and bass sounded artificial. With the W960i Walkman phone the MegaBass really works! Much better than the P990i. In fact too much bass for me unless listening to dance tracks so I still keep on normal.

I'm actually keeping both so that when one goes flat I have the other to fall back on between charges giving me 10-12 hours in total play time.

One thing to point out with the W960i is that streaming sound to a BT headset disables the lovely visualisations in the Walkman 3 player. The processor must not be up to processing the BT strean & visualisations at the same time (not an issue to me but could be for some).

Also for Video playback your better with wired headphones as streaming to BT also affects playback. A 450kbps DVD transfer to the phone played smooth with the wired headphones but "choppy" via BT ones. You also loose radio function with BT ones unless you also have the wired ones plugged in.

I tend to use wired if I'm at home/work and the BT ones while out & about.

The DS970/DS980 sound as good as the HPM-70 & 75s. The 70s & 75s have slightly higher bass & volume but not much in it.

NOTE: All these views are based on my own hearing!!! Nothing scientific

One other thing, compared to the Sony EX71 in ear plugs I find the DS970/DS980 ones extremely comfy and can wear for hours without discomfort just like the HPM-70/75s

Wow, the DS980 is gorgeous! I think its looks are better suited for non-walkman phones. (hence the lack of a walkman logo)
Getting it soon!
