> Unlocking an S500i

Alright, so I have just ordered my wife's S500i (from my previous thread).
I have the firmware/branding issue sorted. Now we've got the unlocking situation. Can I unlock my S500i for free? Not using DaVinchi or any online service like that? A similar program to XS+ perhaps, I'm not so sure...
Before I go and brick my missus' phone, can someone tell me if the following two files alone will be alright to flash, and debrand it using XS+? (unrelated to the topic title)
- S500_R8BA024_RED52_FS_EUROPE_4_LY_enc.bin
- S500_R8BA024_MAIN_GENERIC_LY_RED52.mbn

No free unlocking available for new phones.
Only the older ones like T610i , etc can be unlocked free of cost.

If that is the case, then what is the cheapest available option, bearing in mind the network (Orange) won't do it until I've had the handset for 12 months?

a local shop/market stall should be able to unlock the s500i for you for around £10-£20.
the_laser has released cid52 phone unlock patches for free but you need setool3 which costs around £100. the bad thing is that when you patch it and you need to reflash it for whatever reason, you loose the unlock and will need to get it unlocked again

setool 2 also support the patch file solution, but only for db2020 ( no db2000, db2012 etc )

u have to buy it, u cant download it. visit their website setool.org and read there how it works. but imo only for 1 fone to buy it isnt worth. so let it be done in a mobile shop, but i wouldnt go fot the patch file solution, its not a good way, more the full unlock ( direct unlock )
