"We now know for sure that Android IS NOT a fly by night, get it out there quick and dirty project – but instead a well thought out platform. According to Chow, HTC has been for more than two years with Google on Android. For the sake of HTC’s partnership with Microsoft, Chow underscores the fact that HTC is still fully committed to Windows Mobile, but “Android is, for HTC, a good opportunity to expand our portfolio.” Chow believes that Windows Mobile is strong for enterprise customers, while Android is more consumer focused with “that kind of an internet experience.”"

The fact of the matter is that the customer should always be the key concern and so the more platforms the better, as far as I'm concerned.

Back in the 80's, every brand of computer had it's own Operating System and the consumer chose which ones were the most successful, not big companies and "industry gurus".

Android should be welcomed with open arms, even though Google played a part in it.

if i'm not making mistakes, Android is only middleware NOT an operating system, so it still needs a kernel/os to run on. if so, it'll remain a kinda joke considering nowadays osses are close-source even the so-called mobile linux

and i heard people saying that gPhone apps would be all Java. who needs Java when you got linux? besides Java apps are resource-intensive

There's plenty of conflicting info over Android at the moment. I read on a geek forum somewhere that they can't decide which OS to use as a base and so the mighty Google are considering taking it one step further although they won't reveal how...

GoogleOS? I doubt it very much but it wouldn't surprise me!

in my opinion android will the future/save to smart-phones.
windows mobile is history, not that great improvements over the years.
symbian seems quite solid and reliable, but also closed source.

android is based on linux and java, and the SDK allows you to develop your own tools. Those could be anything, you could use a c-compiler a python compiler dependies etc. so should be possible to run some native linux apps.

Can't wait to the 1st HTC with android released to the public. expect longer lasting life time with your mobile since it could be upgraded/updated with more recent versions and tools
