hello ive got a o2 uk branded p1i and was wondering if you could all give me some advantages of debranding it as im a bit scared to and dont seem to see any clear advantages of doing it

i had a w810i which i debranded from vodafone uk and it was well worth it
as it opened up some new menus (seus over the air) and had better themes etc and seemes faster

but is any of this true for the p1i and for o2 uk as i heard that they dont really over brand there phones like vodafone

thanks hope you can help

You also get access to the latest firmwares (bug fixes)
Latest World Generic 1 is from October

As LAU said.
I debranded my O2 P1i using Davinci and actually find it much better. Accessing the phones functions seem a little quicker and you also get an extra theme instead of the O2 one.
Shutdown and startup doesnt take as long either.

Most likely you also miss out on some roaming services, or some background program, that could possibly be implemented for the network just to drain the battery.. (Only thing could be that there's some custom preference lists for networks that comes with the firmware, or specific bands that maybe could make the reception better. But noone seems to have found any problems with debranding the phone so far. Which makes sense - you're supposed to be able to use a debranded and a branded phone on the network, after all.)

Nobody has said that the O2 P1i's are locked mate.
Infact they are unlocked (meaning that any network sim can be put in) but have some O2 branding on them.
The things O2 do to the P1i are as follows:-

Pre installed O2 Internet, MMS and Email settings.
O2 Startup Screen
O2 Shutdown Screen
O2 Screensaver
O2 Theme
A different CDA customisation

It can indeed, I debranded my o2 p1 in the space of 2 minutes with XS++, it then was recognised by seus as WG1, and flashed with the latest firmware without a hitch. As you say though, with the phone being as stable as it is, there's no great pressing need to do this.
