I am one of those seriously disappointed with the performance of the K850i camera. The big issue for me is out-of-control noise, that cannot be fixed because it is due to a very poor sensor.

It looks like gsmarena have come to the same conclusion.

Just looking at the scores paints a sorry picture:

Is there any hope for the K850 camera? I am feeling slightly better about it with the 037 firmware, it seems to have reduced my finger length (or maybe the flash was actually broken!)

The problem with K850 is the Cyber-shot camera driver. It makes pictures extremely sharp and has an extreme noise reduction.

I don't think that is the case.

When indoors, turn your camera on and go to full zoom.

Put the phone on its side on a desk so it is totally still.

Look at the screen and see it alive with noise. No driver can make that vanish!

Shame poor SE. Lets just see how the firmware update fixes up this problem on K850. But then again the Samsung G800 realy is superior, the Koreans realy know what they are doing, i mean 2x Optical Zoom in such compact well sized body is realy amazing. Well done Samsung.

surely anything you see on screen *is* a function of the driver (as well as the sensor) and don't forget, the zoom on K850 is still digital which again is a function of the driver

I really think there's little point in creating more K850 vs "whatever" picture threads until SE produce the next major firmware.

If they have not sorted the complained about issues by then, then they deserve all the negative reaction they get. Of course, as already said, they should have got it right first up.

I have to disagree with that, if you look at 100% crop of those indoor pics you will find that K850 has more noise than G800.

G800 files are 2.5MB, about twice that of K850i, and are unnecessarily yellow...
