Hi everyone,

I was just wondering whats one of the best mp3 players out there on the market at present in terms of sound quality. I own a Motorola E398 and am really impressed by the way mp3s sound through the headphones.

No offence to the SE fanboys out there, but I find it sounds better than my SE K800i.

Now I'm thinking of purchasing an MP3 player.
Is there anything thats comparable, if not better in quality?

Thank you!

get a Sony MP3 player! Cant be beaten for SQ, best on the market, and has been for years and years imho!

Other good quality brands are Cowan, Creative, Meizu and a couple of the iRiver and Samsung players....

Some say the ipod is good too, personally i think its very average compared to the above players. Though, like many audiophiles do, they put portable amps on their ipods, and very high end headphones, probably the only reason they get good SQ from the ipod!

If I'm going to compare my 5G 80GB iPod to my Sony NW-E405, which happens to be years old!, I honestly prefer the Sony...

It produces undistorted bass even with it's crappy headphones that came in the box!

ipods are fine, they've just got the "sheep" factor, as in snotty 15 year olds assume you're a crowd-following sheep if you buy one. Creative do good players too, personally i'm not a big fan of Sony Walkman players (sacrilege i know lol)

And to really get the best sound, try www.headphoneworld.com they've got everything. Jivo in-ear headphones are fantastic value at a tenner, but don't buy the istuff ones they are just junk.

Its all about the headphones! ive got an ipod and the first thing i did was throw the shitty headphones that came with it and bought a £35 pair of sony ones! If you're going to pay over a £100 on an mp3 player you may as well buy some quality headphones to go with it, end of the day they are whats going to make your mp3 player sound good or not! Any high end mp3 player you but will sound good, just buy some decent headphones!

I got my head bitten off in another thread a few days ago for saying things like what you've all said here... So I won't comment on other MP3 player's quality.

I recently bought this:

Its a Sony NWZS616F and its great. It plays video, has radio, holds pictures, its small and it looks awesome. And it was cheap. It came with average quality headphones though (as you can see, they are the cheap Sony ones), which I replaced with some top quality Sony ones. It comes in many different colours, shown above... I got the white.

I believe this Sony is similarly specced, but comes with the better headphones too:

Its a NWZA816 and its slightly more expensive and for some reason doesn't have radio. But it has the nice headphones you see in the picture. It also comes in many different colours. I liked the design of the one I got though.

Both have excellent sound quality and support drag and drop and also the Windows "plays for sure" thing.

Both come in sizes 2GB, 4GB and 8GB. They both are small and feel very high quality. Mine has an even better screen than my Sony Ericsson V630i... It looks so crisp and bright!

well if you dont need big storage space, defo go a Sony. Sony has had the best sounding portable audio stuff for years now!

But if you need large space, go a microsoft zune or one of the Kenwoods with big space. Or of course theres the ipod. Even with good headphones, i still think other players are better for SQ than ipod.

@Muhummad-Oli
the one you have is indeed the 'cheaper' version, still has good sound, but the one you posted underneath your one is as you said more $$$, but it has better sound quality (according to the sales rep at this audio store i go to)

the 2nd one you posted, is the one i owned for a short while, well i had the nw-a808, which is the same as the nw-a816, just that the 16 supports drag n drop, the 08 only supports Sonic Stage

Yeah I spoke to the sales rep in my Sony shop. He said that the other one has better sound, but he said it is only due to it coming with the better headphones. I bought the headphones separately and so now I should have the same sound quality (assuming he was right!).

hmmm, the audio guy here didnt mention why one had better SQ.

all the reviews i read point to most Sony's having good sound, just that some produce certain sounds, eg, bass, treble etc etc than others, but still at the same time producing good sound (dont know if that makes any sense )
