Hello just got my new P1i today, had a P910i and P990 previously, yes I am a sucker for punishment! It took me ages to come to the decision to get a P1i after the P990 not being great and the fact that I can't sync these phones with my Mac. I ummed and ahhed over this phone, the N25 8gb and of course the iPhone. Finally chose to stick to the devil I know, hope I made the right decision.
Anyway have read stuff about the recent firmware updates etc and I am wondering if anyone does this on an Apple MacBook running Tiger OS 10.4.11? If so what do I do to get started? I must admit I have had my P990 for over a year on the original software it came with in the box, as I could not load the SE PC Suite onto my Mac to enable my phone to sync so I could download updates etc! My P990 wasn't too bad though apart from freezing and crashing now and then, getting worse and slower as it got older! However I really want to try to get round this with this phone if possible and get the best out of it.
Can you download any new software, updates or applications straight onto the phone rather than onto a computer first? I assume not? It would be so great if you could do this!
Also when I fiddled with the camera for the first time just now it didn't give me the option to select 3mp in the settings, only 2mp max, why is that??!! If I can only get 2mp I might as well have stuck with the P990 a bit longer or bought an iPhone really!
Can anyone help please? And if so please explain in non-techie language if poss as I am female! Thanks

I can sync my p1 normally with Leopard. Dunno about tiger. The P1i on leopard can be seen as a usb device, I transfer the files through usb & l install them from phone. Regarding the 2MP thing, am sure u have zoomed in, when u do u can't get a 3.2MP quality or as an option since its a digital zoom.

If you do a search for P1i iSync plugin you can install a plugin in Tiger which will allow your phone to talk to iSync and then sync it.... (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/25483/sony-ericsson-p1i-isync-phone-plugin) you just then run iSync and add the phone as you would normally.
There is a file to download which will allow you to access the phone via usb, and that can be found here;
http://www.se-uiq.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1242 you might need to be able to speak french.

Hi thanks for the help. I have downloaded the plug in and I think sync should work now as isync now recognises the P1i when it didn't before. What I really want to do though and explain before is to be able to update the software on the phone and also transfer stuff off my mac onto the P1i like photos and music - how do I do that? The phone does not seem to show up on my mac either in bluetooth or USB mode. I can send stuff to the phone individually by bluetooth but it will take me forever.

You need to download the USB Mass Storage Device thing, I can't remeber where I found it, but if you do a google search you will find it!
The easiest way I have found of getting things onto my MacBook is by sending them from the P1 with bluetooth.
Hope this helps?

Hi thanks for your help will do a search for that. Can you update the phones software though without being able to load the SE PC Suite? Or am I doomed? The disc does not work in the Mac and when I downloaded the update thing off the SE site it just doesn't work.
Sorry if I am asking stupid questions!

The update service only works with a windows computer unfortunately. Seeing windows computers are everywhere, you can probably find one to use right?

I use Parallels desktop with an install of Vista which works as a virtual machine. It works a treat once you've got used to it! I've even managed to use XS++ with it!
