At last the UK government are going to get tough with people who do not seem to be able to get in a car without using a hand held mobile phone.

I hope to see the Police in East Ham realy enforcing the law now.

I work in East Ham and I can well imagine why he mentioned East Ham in particular...
There's so many drivers around there driving like wallies while pre-occupied on their phones along High Street North and further up along Romford Road in Manor Park, that I'm amazed that there aren't more crashes around there...

Ahh you know what I am on about! The worst I have seen over the Christmas period was a guy in a big Merc (I was following) Just stopped in High Street North (Double parked of course) Then bent down to get some papers from the pasenger seat and did a U turn in the main road to go back towards Romford Road all the time on a hand held device makes me soooo angry.

You gotta be careful with handsfree kits too. There was a bit on the news about a month ago about a guy who had a bluetooth headset on while driving (he wasnt talking on it) who got fined for driving while using his phone.

Research has shown that driver's reaction times are up to 50% slower that normal when driving and using a mobile phone. It also shows that your reaction times are 30% worse than when driving under the influence of alcohol. Other research suggests that if you are using a mobile phone while driving you are four times more likely to have a crash.

well that's just stupid, and that research has to be flawed. You can't tell me that I'm more dangerous while using a mobile phone with a handsfree, while some idiot next to me with a blood alcohol level of 0.5 is less dangerous
