I am not sure if you guys know this but when you use Truphone it makes unannounced changes to your phones default calling settings. The normal default calling type is: "cellular", however Truphone changes this to: "Internet" and then proceeds to make ALL calls over the Internet. Even if you are calling your sister in the other room, it goes over the Internet, thus putting money into Truphone's pocket. I have nothing wrong with people making money, but I do have a problem with people making behind the back changes and then, in my opinion, stealing money from me. Let the user beware. Neither Skype, nor Gizmo do this.

If I am incorrect in this assessment, please correct me and show me where I was wrong.

Thanks in advance.

I am a truphone user and it tells you when you setting it up that it will make changes to your calling system and that you allow it access to your phonebook.

Also when you are ringing someone from truphone you will hear the truphone ringing which notifies you that you are using truphone and not gsm.

It also gives you the option to select truphone or gsm for text message.

Personally truphone is milestone better than gizmo and skype and If you were concerned then you can go into the main menu and change default call type to cellular.

Another vote for Truphone here; I used it with my N95 to call the UK from America a number of times. Sound quality was MUCH better than other software, and the calls didn't cost me a penny.

I have no truck with TruPhone. If you say they mentioned that they will change settings, and give you the chance to refuse this, then I missed it. I saw that it will go to your phone book (no problem), will access the Internet (well, duh this is needed. No problem here too). My problem is that they make changes in the background. Second, they recommend you leave it running in the background. This is the number 1 killer of battery life. Servers running in the background are death on battery life. Everyone knows this but TruPhone recommends this. Sorry but I am not impressed.

Well you have the option to disable it so that not a big deal its just a convenience to leave it signed in. I agree its a battery killer but if we look closer its the wifi that is killing the battery but then like you said you have a few other options to use so if you feel truphone is not for you then by all means uninstall it.

Well, yes wifi use can decrease battery function but a server running in the background is equally as detrimental to performance. As I said, I have nothing against TruPhone, just the way they make changes without a mention. Anyway, it is what it is.
