Nice comparison, but we want a more comprehensive comparison than this

anyway specs wise N73ME does not deserve to be compared to P1 as far as the camera spec sheet is concerned
reasons:
->sensor size: judging by the focal length(P1 has f=4.8mm, N73ME is f=5.6 - same as N95

) and the mere fact that they have the same depth of field (both F=1.2.8 ) N73 sensor is presumably larger. which in case is predicted to produce better color accuracy even without the oversaturation algorithm nokia sports to their camfones particularly those who features Carl-Zeiss
->Lens - Yep you heard it Lens, admit it or not Carl-Zeiss lens gives higher quality photos(reducing flares, smears, balances colors etc, improves contrast, reduces barrel distortion) than a standard Sony Lens.
^^ Judging by the two aforementioned fundamentals for a quality camera - N73 clearly wins. but since theres still something about camera that nokia still fails to have: the better imaging experience regarding imaging algorithms, we can't deliberately declare P1 to be a loser there, since most SE camfones still had the fastest AF lock time as well as the saving time and other features like BestPic or natural image processing etc which complements for a finer usage and better performance for the camera itself.

After looking at those pictures there are two things i noticed
1) No green tint on the p1i photos.
2) The p1 photos for the msot part are much better then Nokia's. They are not as compressed as the nokia photos, less noise and in general they seem much better the first one of the 3 phones for instnace is the one that caught my eye the most.
I am surprised at how much brighter the pictures from the Nokia are, but they do seem highly over saturated.

imo cz branded nokia cams are very poor qulaity, sadly... i made some pix with k800 in 2 mp mode, and when i compraed it with n95, the result was disappointing, for the nokia.. sadyl the same experiences with n73.

Funny that N73's first pics had turned greenish

if you use firefox:
right click on the image thumbnail and click view image, and that solves your problem
I made a very strict observation on that comparison and noticed that N73's image quality in full size is terrible - worse than what i'm used to see, just look at the grass and leaves of the tree upon the third picture comparison and you'll know what i mean

- anyway again it's funny that the author liked the N73 images for being brighter than P1s while in fact they are bugged with terrible compression and oversaturation, but i can't blame him for that assumption as because i observed that he's a nokia S60 loyalist

judging by the number of nokia S60 galleries his site had

I think if you look at the pictures at a smaller size the n73 photos could in some cases look better than the p1. In this comparison i personally wouldn't say this is the case.
In fact when the author puts up such pictures and claims the n73's are better than the p1's i really have to question as to how they are looking at the photo, and what they've been smoking.
Loyalist or not, the differences between the photos are immense and you cannot say the n73 is better. The grass and trees in picture 3 also struck me and when i saw the n73's compression i was shocked.

Well, after having owned a N73 for a year and now the P1i for a few months I'd say the N73 pictures are better overall (the samples on that page aren't the best... wonder if the firmware is up to date).
The P1i produces quite a bit of noise, the N73 overcompresses the noise bigtime although this varies a lot (especially in lower light).
The P1i nightmode is useless btw... I see NO difference at all between night and normal mode.
All in all, the N73 has the edge as far as I'm concerned but the P1i produces very decent pics none the less.

@5nak3
Completely agree with you, mate!
No doubt in my mind that P1's pictures are way better.
