On the P1 (for example), in the accept calls function, you can choose to send a busy tone which will usually divert the call to your voice mail, or you can choose to drop the call in which case the caller gets a continuous tone.

an annoyance in both cases is that the call is not recorded in the call log or indeed there is no indication that you missed a call, whereas on non-smartphone SE's you get the notification and the id (if available) (btw, non-smartphone SE's don't have the choice of drop or busy tone... its always busy tone).

What I am really interested in though, is how to manually drop a call rather than send a busy tone, which is what happens when you press the end call button while its ringing

Maybe put it in flight mode once you receive a call

I got a P990 and when i put my phone on 'no one'/'speed dial'/'contacts' etc i always get a call log of all the calls i missed(irrespective of call drop/busy tone).I use this feature whenever i am in the operating room in the hospital.

I get a blue arrow with a cross on, if I reject a call, and a red turn if I miss one.. so, maybe what you want is a notification when your calls are redirected? ..I don't use voicemail (unless I really have to..), but a function like that might be useful, I guess (and something that really should be there, no? A column for 'redirect'?)
