Hello folks,

This is my first post so be gentle on me! I've managed to break the glass lens cover on my K850i. The camera is still working fine and the small cover opens and closes OK. I've searched everywhere for a replacement and can't get one.

When i contacted SE they gave me the number of a repair centre called K+N Ltd who reckoned it would take about £47 to fix.

Sticking a bit of glass in can't be that hard if I had one.

Anybody know where they can be got?

Hmm... this is a hard one. Some would actually love to get rid of the protection glass, because it's got a mechanical shutter. And this way they would get rid of the fingerprints on the lens.

I remember seeing a thread here about a case like this, I'll try to find it for you

And welcome to Esato!

No Idea. You could get a full housing off various places on the net. Just google K850 housing. You might find a few full housing sets on eBay.

How did you crack it?!?

Don't know how it got broken. It was in my pocket at work, so it might have hit something. It's a shame, cos i really like the phone.

About the ebay covers, I don't know if they include the lens cover. I was emailing one of the sellers and he said his didn't.

If i was sure no harm would come to the camera/internal cover, i wouldn't bother replacing it. Knowing my luck I'll probably break that too:)!

£47 isnt bad for the repair.

You do have to have the back replaced as far as im aware. However i would be very careful if you are doing it your self.

I have heard of people opening the phone and it no longer working after.

This may sound strange, but if you didnt have the glass protection then you may be looking for a complete motorise lens cover?

sound like the glass lens did its job of protecting the camera ?

Im really sorry that it happened tho, I know how you must feel

£47 sounds a bargain to me for an approved repair using genuine parts that will also still keep the phones original 2 year warranty valid at the end as well.

Sky Hi Posts: 106

I really can't understand what great brains in SE thought of putting a glass protection cover over the actual lens cover. The job of the cover is supposed to be protecting from dust, scratches and lens damage. Having a glass cover over the cover is like disabling the actuall cover! If the glass cover gets scratched or broken, it's like having no cover at all!! And far from all these, it isn't even dustproof!!
I much-much prefer the k810. The best SE phone so ever!
