OK this is really strange behaviour with this UIQ3 phone. I think I will get rid of it. I noticed that sometimes it cannot read the SIM contacts. It will reboot by itself, after restarting this message is posted : "rebooting phone to improve performance" and then no more contacts in SIM folder. I did master reset but the problem remains. After running Service Update from SE site (even though I had the latest firmware installed) the phone will show SIM Contacts but after a few days the problem occurs again. Any ideeas what it could be ?

thanks

why noy just copy the contacts to your phone rather than reading the sim?

may be more a problem with the SIM (or SIM reader terminals) than the UIQ software.

although this isn't a solution to your problem, but why not use the phone's memory instead of the SIM's?

I stopped using SIM memory back when the R520m came out... never EVER stored anything on my SIM ever again!

i've been googling around this message "rebooting phone to improve performance" and I found another issue which is related to mine as well : if someone in my phone-memory contacts list phones me, they're not recognized.

As jplacson said, sounds like a problem with your sim - try gently cleaning the gold contact surfaces with a pencil eraser

No, in my previous post the problem is related to phone-memory Contacts . So besides SIM-Contacts problem (phone not showing SIM Contacts), it is another problem with phone-memory Contacts (randomly,the name from the phonebook not listed when receiving a call). All these problems are appearing after phone restarts by itself !!!

Possibly a bad unit? I've never had any of those problems.

Guys, why don't you try to understand marius2du? S/He has a brand new P1i with some problem which can be short-circuited by other features of the handset. But will you be comfortable with a defective phone (assuming that SIM is not the problem which is one of the likely scenarios) which is brand new and costs a lot of $$$$$ (may be not that much for some of you)? No, I will not. You SE die hard supporters are trying to divert the attention from the problem of the handset to somewhere else to justify that SE is still great!

@marius2du
Why don't you try to contact SE service as it should be still under warranty? Of course, you may ask the service provider to check the SIM or replace it.

It is not my SIM card ,I can assure you. I did test my SIM card - it is OK.
Meanwhile I found out where the problem comes from . If you activate the Voice control then Contacts issues appears. All we can do is to wait another Service Update from SE or we can simply sell the phone. Simple as that, isn't it ?

Just to mention that the restarting of the phone and the message "rebooting phone to improve performance" was due to an appli which I have uninstalled .
But now the problem with Contacts remains ,even after Master Reset and running again (...and again)Service Update.
I'm feeling like a beta-tester here ..........
