Well, nearly new anyway! Went into Woolworths looking to spend my bit of Christmas money, and found this Medion MIM2080 laptop on offer for £100 - the only problem, no power cable! I've just ordered one off Ebay for £20 del, and although the specs are a bit paltry it's fine for me, it'll only really get used for web surfing, IM, maybe a bit of downloading with Limewire.

One question as well - it comes with a rather paltry amount of RAM - what Ram would I need to buy in order to upgrade the memory? I remember the bad old days of laptops that needs proprietary Ram designs, does this laptop take standard Ram - and what type of Ram would I need as I think there's a few different types of standard out there!

another quick question, in the meantime all i have that connects to the lappy's power connector is my multi voltage adaptor, which i briefly connected to the lappy. The orange charging light did come on, but can i charge the battery safely using this adapter? I think it should be ok, just take a while to charge as the stated output for the lappy is 19v at 3.4a. I'm using 12v and 0.9a.
Will i damage the lappy or battery using this adapter?

SODIMM PC 2700 Memory

If the laptop tries to take more power than your Multi adapter can provide then it's more likely to damage the adapter than the laptop.

Adapter's no good, it'll power the laptop up for a couple of seconds but isn't charging the battery otherwise. I've unplugged it in case I end up damaging something!

Cheers for the link Cyco, though it seems the laptop comes with 512Mb memory as standard, which should do me fine (This deskop PC I'm on at the mo I think has 512Mb, usually enough as I don't run many demanding apps), and £60 seems a lot of money for a gig of memory

I think it was just a one-off, the assistant manager said someone had tried to pinch a few laptops but were caught or something, which is why there's no adapter! I was quite frustrated yesterday too as my wife has an old Medion laptop, I was hoping to use it's adapter but it won't fit, despite being the correct voltage! I'm really tempted to 'modify' it a bit so that if fits lol

They had another one which was £100, that one had no battery and no power cable (also missing the 'G' button for some reason too!), and there was another light better specced laptop for £150 I think that didn't have a power adapter too.

So if you want a cheap lappy and don't mind having to get hold of a couple of accessories then get yourself to the Woolworths in Lichfield!

Yeah, I wasn't suggesting you buy the memory from there, I was just linking to it to show you the the right type

If you're not p****d off with ebay like I am, you can probably get some from there for next to nothing.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on Ebay once I have a bit of cash spare!

Another quick question, I've noticed that my wife's adapter from her Toshiba laptop fits the Medion, it's the correct voltage (19v) but 6.3a opposed to the Medion's 3.42a. Can I use this adapter safely for the next couple of days or will it damage the laptop or battery?

damn my impatience!
