Hi All,

Need urgent help on getting my P1i to Sync with Outlook 2007 on Visa.

I have been sync'ing my P1i with my old notebook running WinXP with Outlook 2002 since July 2007 and everything was fine. But I recently upgraded to a new notebook running Vista and synchronization went to hell.

Old Notebook Configuration: (WORKS GREAT)
WinXP running Outlook 2002
SonyEricsson PC Suite which came with the P1i

New Notebook Configuration:
Win Vista running Outlook 2007
SonyEricsson PC Suite Version 1.3.33
(Latest version download from SonyEricsson site)

Synchronization Problem:

1. I did a master reset on my P1i to rid of user data.
2. I only sync with Calendar, Contact, Task and Note with Outlook and nothing else.
3. The first sync worked with Contact, Task and Note where everything on Outlook was sync'd to P1i.
4. However only the recurring events in Outlook Calendar was sync'd to P1i.
5. All subsequent sync's did NOT work. The Sync Manager actually ran through the entire sync process, but the end result was "ZERO item was sync'd". None of the new changes on Outlook was sync'd to P1i.

Is there a update patch I need to install from somewhere?

The SonyEricsson PC Suite apparently conflicts with the Vaio Smart Network software, which is Sony's network profile manager for Sony notebooks. Although unlikely, but can this be the source of problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do have Vista and Outlook 2007; but I do not use it for syncing. Somethings to check:

1. Is the time on your phone and PC synchronized?
2. Do you have one-way syncing enabled by chance? This would give one device precedence over the other.

If all else fails, and you are only synchronizing Contacts, Calendar and Notes, use a free SyncML service like mobical and avoid the Outlook headaches.

Thanks for your response.

1. Yes, the time is synchronized.
2. Sync Manager is configured for two-way sync.

So don't know what the problem is but rather being a bug or incompatibility with either Vista or Outlook 2007.

BTW, what is SyncML? Is it a sync software or also include a desktop organizer?

No problem here, I have Vista Ultimate, Office 2007 and PC Suite 1.3.19. Reinstall both PC Suite and Office...

..It's the actual standard (open, object- based type of format anyone could write a client for). That some.. unnamed vendors.. are typically writing their own, half- way compliant variant of. And then offering (..graciously) a work- around for, to allow their units and tools to comply partially with the "other" "standard" afterwards, for "specially interested" and "advanced" users (who like things like "choice"). A workaround which then either 1. ends up competing out this unnamed vendor's own primary solution (theoretically, I mean, this has never happened), or 2. is so bad that people think the "other" "standard" sucks donkeyballs, and can never compete with anything from this unnamed vendor's primary sync- solution, however ridiculously much bugs and crap comes along with it, not to mention inconsistencies in the standard that unfortunately ends up corrupting databases more often than viruses and things that traditionally is actually designed to destroy data. Which makes the "real" sync- application the customer's primary and best choice, obviously. *cough*

And that's why for some.. unknowable, curious reason.. activesync has more users combined than any other sync- client using SyncML compliant hooks. And SE offers an infinitely more developed program for activesync, than it does for "other" solutions.

Er... enough from the twilight- zone for today, yeah?
