> P1i hangs during backup and recover
Bookmark topic
Do any of you have this problem?
My P1i hangs often during the phone reboot process during backup or recovery. It does not happen every time, but often enough to be VERY annoying. It's wasn't a big problem my recent attempt to migrate the sync to my new notebook.
My P1i would go through the backup process and everything would be fine until the reboot. You can see the boot start screen on the P1i with the startup status bar moving to about 80% of the screen, then stops. Then the phone would hang until the Backup Manager on the PC gives an error saying that it lost communication with the phone. The only to turn off the phone was to remove the battery.
Same thing happens during recovery.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd try a master reset, as it sounds like a slight corruption within the os, though personally I never use the backup function in the pc suite as it has always been rather buggy - rather I just keep my contacts etc. synched with outlook, and restore from that when needed. Any 3rd party software etc. I just reinstall - this may seem like a pain, but once you've done it a couple of times it gets very routine.
BTW, you don't have to pull the battery when the phone hangs - just hold down the power button for 10s or so, it'll do an emergency shutdown.
Another possibility is that your usb connection might be strobing slightly, I had a hub once that did this - as an experiment I'd try a different port on your pc.
Also try disabling USB charging on your phone.

Hi,
the exact same thing happened to me.
I've solved it by deleting he MMS from my mailbox (inbox, sent and other folders).
Annoying as it means your MMS are lost but hey...
Hope it helps.

Thanks a million for your response, but...
I'm still not sure what the problem is. I tried on three different PC, two running WinXP and one running WinVista and all had the same problem. So either there's a bug in the PC Suite software or something wrong with my phone.
I tried holding down the power button for a long time and it didn't work. This is why I removed the battery instead.
I've already tried all the different USB ports on all three computers and the same thing still happened.

This happens during recover after I did a master reset, so there should be nothing in the MMS box. Will try anyways...
Thanks...

Had a similar problem...during recovery, it stops in the middle of the process when the phone reboots. Then the phone hangs...not sure what causes it. Some 3rd party I included during backup perhaps..
Vista user by the way..
After updating I can't scan any radio stations as well.
weird

Are you able to sync with Outlook?

Hi There,
SonyEricsson support was able to resolve this problem for me. They said my USB cable connector was not installed properly, so the made the adjustment on the phone.
They also upgraded my firmware to the latest and seems to work now.

Found the best way to avoid this problem is to reboot the pc and the phone prior to any backup and restore.

Thanks! I'll have it checked. It took me a while to find support here in HK...
