Its my brothers birthday soon and he needs a new phone and he said he likes the K800i. My question is as its been out for a while now is it stable and reliable with later firmware as he used to have a K750i and that was reliable. Thanks in advance. This message was posted from a 6300

the major probs it had were
WSOD it use jst die,a simple FW update would fix it
the key pads coating peeling off

my dad has been using it for a yr now....and it died once my got it fixed for free within a day...and this prob does not occur anymore eith the latest FW..and the coating has jst started to peel of(after kinda heavy use)..

and i see no reason why ur bro wodnt be happy with the upgarde...

best of luck

Only positive to say about K800. I bought mine August 2006. Like new.

The early ones did have a problem where they would turn on but that was fixed in later revisions of the phone software.

I've had mine for over a year now & can't fault it in any way.

Build quality is very good, with all keys including the joystick still very responsive/firm/not loose etc even after this long.
The camera cover does have a tendency to slide open in your pocket but on the whole its nothing to worry about really.

General everyday use is very easy with call handling & texting simple to navigate and very intuitive (the predictive text & way the phone 'remembers' your most frequently texted words, then offers them for use is excellent)

Other good points i like are as a 'camera phone' my imac automatically reads the phone when connected via usb as a 'camera' and such opens up iphoto and downloads all photos exactly as if a regular digital camera/memory stick had been connected.
Phone charges via usb cable (which i have found to be a god send at times)

anyway before i find myself rambling again, Yes its a very good, reliable phone that i reckon still holds it own despite newer models available.

since when CID is related to peeling off keypads?

I guess he means K800's of that time period, not necessrily the cid49 itself.

However my sis has a cid49 and it is reliable and no keypad problems at all.

My own cid51 (updated to cid52) is rock solid and super reliable. I haven't had a single issue with it at all.
