Hi guys,
I bought a P1i about two weeks ago and used the Sony Update Service to upgrade the phone. Unfortunately it offered only one upgrade option which was Generic Arabic (I'm a UK user). I installed this and all seems to work OK except when I'm typing. The text screen pops up at the top right hand side of the screen (the one where you get options per key?) and most of the options are arabic.
I cannot read arabic. Is there any way to disable this? I've ensured that my first language is English UK and I've tried setting the second language to none and English US...
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Not sure what you are seeing really, but it sounds like the on screen keyboard. Also, I'm surprised that you are able to type in Arabic; what firmware version do you have and what is your CDA?
Anyway -- for your problem, try disabling or changing the on screen keyboard mode.
Main Menu > Control Panel > Device > Text input

I actually had this problem when I bought my P1i. I'm also a US user who has the Generic Arabic version. I had problems too, but after I did a master reset/upgraded firmware, I seemed to be fine. Just make sure you choose UK English after you boot up the phone for the very first time during the setup process.

I think what hicks is trying to say is that if you press N for example there is a set of characters on top that appears which shows you what characters would appear when you press N for several times... the characters shown are n nn instead of displaying special N characters like ñ ...
this is also the case with my P1i which also has an arabic firmware... i usually use the "Ü" character as smiley (pressing "u" several times on my old fone) isn't this possible on the P1i with arabic firmware?

Use XS++ to change the CDA to something like GW1 and flash with SEUS.

Lol, sorry
Here, you can see CDA's
http://uiq3.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/CDA/P1i
If you look in that list, you will notice that the CDA determines the region of the phone and therefore the languages.
Get XS++
http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=16338
and the user guide at the last post and it will tell you how to change the CDA. (I suggest [World] Generic 1)
After it is flashed, you should get the normal input.
