Sony Ericsson eyes big '08 North America push
LAS VEGAS (Reuters) - Sony Ericsson is planning a big push into North America in 2008 and hopes to move to third place from fourth in the global market in a few years, the company's new president, Hideki Komiyama, said on Monday.
The mobile venture of Ericsson has had less success in North America than in other regions but aims to change this by introducing more phone models and selling some of them in North America first.
"North America is one of the areas in which we have a market presence that is limited," Komiyama said in an interview with Reuters at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, his first press interview since taking on the new job in November.
"Now we're starting to set the ground for future years. We think we're ready to take off," he said.
The company's North American president, Najmi Jarwala, said, "Sony Ericsson will be bringing the largest portfolio of products we've ever had to North America in 2008."
Sony Ericsson, a seven-year-old company, trails Nokia, Samsung Electronics and Motorola in the global mobile phone market.

"I was wondering about eating Swedish meatballs and Japanese sushi all together. How do you digest this company?" he said. But the job had turned out so far to be "very interesting and very exciting," he added."
of course it interesting and exciting. finally our asian friends asw what quality means and the swedish guys showd them, how to make a fone, instead of cheap toys...
but seriously, is se still focusing on the middle and low end market so hard? guess they have no idea what and how to do, so they still go in circle and try to sell an endless ( but for now really boring imo ) cyber crap and walkman crap. still no new ideas, still no development. sorry, but to increase cam mp and offer bit better music quality i cant and wont call development

SE lacks innovation, a thing ericsson had.
Didn't SE say they were going for the US, Indian and also Korean market last year? Its like all those smokers who promis to quite after new year.

This hopefully means a lot more phones that combine Quad-Band GSM and Tri-Band 3G. But I won't hold my breath, since

said the same thing last year - and all we got was the "fix me" edition of the K850i, and a girly toy called the Z750a.

That, more or less, has been done as promised. (especially the Indian part)
