Bookmark topic
Hi everyone
I got a new P1i from O2 last week and I'm impressed with it so far. It's close to being the perfect phone apart from a few design improvements I could make
I've debranded the phone using XS++ and then upgraded it using SEUS, and it all seems to work perfectly!
Anyway, I've got some questions about the built-in web browser:
Opera 8.65 for Symbian OS ("701")
... is the info from the About screen.
1) Opening .wml and .html files from the memory stick
On my old K800i (different phone and OS I realise!) I used to keep a saved page on the memory stick which was a .wml file that contained all my bookmarks.
I did this because of years of having to type in all my bookmarks on every new phone to get them set up in whatever WAP application the phone used.
The browser in the K800i would let you save a page as a wml file and store it whereever you liked on the phone.
When I save a page using the Opera browser it just saves it to an internal location and seems to be only accessible through Opera itself.
I've placed my bookmarks.wml file into the root of the memory stick
How can I open that with Opera?
Is there a way I can type a local address into the 'Go to web page' menu option?
All it appears that can do is open a URL, not a local file path.
When I view the file with File Manager it just appears as a ? icon as if nothing can open .wml files.
Is there a way I can get Opera to open my bookmarks.wml file from the memory stick?
I'd then like to set an standby icon to point to that .wml file
Since it appears I can't change the homepage on my own phone!
2) Removing pre-set bookmarks
The Bookmarks in Opera contains 4 bookmarks that I didn't put there. And I can't seem to get rid of them!
- Sony Ericsson Startpage
- Sony Ericsson
- Google Search
- Web Guide
Is there any way to delete these?
I don't get why companies do things like that.
The Web application is a full web browser, so it should at least allow you to open any HTML or WML file that's stored anywhere... on the internet or the phone. I have many documents stored in HTML format and it would be useful to read those.
Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks
Ben

When you Sync your phone with the PC, the bookmarks in the root of your Internet Explorer Favorites folder are syncronized with the Opera bookmarks.
Internet Explorer favorites are compatible with the P1's Opera browser.
Create bookmarks in the *root* of IE favourites they will be sent to the P1 once you sync your information (it works both ways)
Hint: In XP favorites are located in C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Favorites\
(favorites folder name may change depending on your language)

I didn't bother sync'ing because I have a work Outlook account on my laptop and didn't want any of the contacts/calendar/bookmarks going anywhere near my phone.
My experiences with automatic Syncing with both Nokia and SE PC Suite software have not been good
Any idea on the opening/reading of local WML/HTML files from the memory stick using the Opera browser?

Customize the sync and set only the itens you want to sync. You can unselect everything.
You can even change where is the IE Favorites folder on the PC, and set it to other folder like C:\My_P1_Bookmarks\
That way you have better control wich bookmarks are sent to the P1 (that's what I did)

on the first one - yes, see
here for example. (original h/t to ares).
And that works with the ordinary web- links in the activity- menu as well. Only thing, just remember to write down the actual path, and not the translation in the filemanager (/other, and /Document, and so on).

Ok great.
I got this working by typing:
file://Localhost/D:/bookmarks.wml.wml
I didn't realise that renaming the file using File Manager preserves the extension, so I renamed the file bookmarks.wml, but File Manager kept the original extension so it became bookmarks.wml.wml
Anyway, seems to be working now.
@Nipsen:
How do I get the actual path, and not the translation in File Manager?
Thanks
Ben
