> K850i - Free Internet on T-Mobile?
Bookmark topic
I open up a browser on my K850i and can surf the web no prob. Not just WAP sites, but all sites. I don't have the $5.99 TmobileWeb package or the $19.99 Total Internet Access package.
So I called TMobile and went through 2 levels of techs until I got to the "Unsupported Phones" tech guy. He verified that I don't have either internet package and wasn't sure how I'm getting on. I asked him (and the other 2 techs I spoke with on the phone) what I'm going to be charged for data transfer and he said nothing.
Is this true? I figured that I'd be charged at least some sort of data fee - I'm guessing $0.01 / byte or something?
I just don't want to be slapped with a large fee at the end of the month.
So far I was surfing superbikeplanet.com, the SE site to download games and apps, and getting updates on the Web Feeds.
Thoughts? Thanks!

I've heard of free internet on the O2 network (long time ago) but not t-mobile. Lucky you.

I hope I'm lucky and not just ignorant. I'm gonna be hella pissed if I get a large data transfer fee at the end of the month.
Any NA Tmobile users experiencing the same thing? This has got to be user idiocy... cuz it's too good to be true.
Thanks.

I'm in San Diego. I just noticed I have WAP Internet access on my Motorola V195. I used to have the $5.99 T-mobileWeb service, but I cancelled it through the website about a year ago. I never even attempted to access WAP since I cancelled it because I was affraid of fees. I wonder if the phone is magic. I'll be getting a RIZR Z3 next week. Then I'll know if it's the phone or the service.
So, did you get billed for the WAP usage?

IF you're in the USA, then its likely the Tier II tech support reports are REALLY sloppier than those I used to work with some 4yrs ago! I only know of 2 that remain and they never take calls any longer.
That said if you've EVER had internet on your billing account before and if TMobile USA is changing their switch/GGSN; its most likely that accounts were setup manually during the handoff .... result in the HLR/VLR you've got the voicestream.com provisioned (ON = free data). Either that or you have friends in the RIGHT places!
PS: don't complain if the bills don't just make sure you're account is documented and you're all set. BUT I fear because you inquired TOO much then internally an investigation will result in it being turned OFF!

I would stop and wait for the bill to come first!
I can access my bill online with details (telfort, dutch), and i can see how many textmessages ive sent, how long ive called and how much i downloaded, if you could check it out and see if it affects ur bill

hey I would want that free internet too!
using K850i too, but I'm way over in the east coast. took me almost 4 hours to "mess" with the internet setting because when I first turned the phone, it can't even get to the t-zones (my account) page that is accessible to all T-Mobile customer. I called tech support and immediately being told that they can't do a thing because my phone is unsupported. huh!
well, if I were you, I would just call them because "I want to check on my account and I want to know if I have added any data plan because I was able to get on a non T-Mobile website; and I don't recall that I have data plan on my account" that's the exact words that I would tell them. I'm pretty sure now that you've let them know, the higher tech people will check your account and turn off the free internet thing. not fun

It happens, and isn't very uncommon. Over on hofo, we hear about this a lot. There was a time late last year when everybody had free internet. In the 6 years i have been watching to the t-mobile forums, i have NEVER heard of anybody being charged for using the internet for free. It's a glitch and don't expect it to last long.
If you find that you like it, i would do the right thing and just pay the $5.99 and be done with it. It is the honest thing to do. But, if you don't use it much, then you know without paying for anything. Either way, you should be fine. Regardless of what you do.

I've been using T-mobile since '04 now and have had free wap internet access for the whole time. I too have asked them about it and they said the same thing, they didn't know why.
No bills and no worries... I too live in san diego but when travelling abroad in other states its no problems as well.
It's not just the k850i (which I'm running currently) but all my previous SE mobiles...
I think it's that these USA providers are so behind the times compared with mobile technology and their phones they provide just suck so much and when they get a good phone, they have no profile adapt.
Thank god for unlocked phones.... Verizon rest in peace
