are these headphones much of an improvement from hpm-70??

I read from somewhere that in terms of sound quality, it's no different from HPM-70. The only major difference is that it has a remote control.
I own one and if you are into "shuffle mode" this can come very handy because you need not take out your phone to adjust the volume or switch to the next track.

ya the remote is mainly what interests me... but i read that it wont work with s500i or w580i... is this true?

I checked with the Sony Ericsson website and this headset supports both S500i and W580i
