> P1i Search in Contacts
Bookmark topic
Hello,
I have just bought a new P1i and I have a question.
By the way, the P1i is a very capable phone with most of its capabilities suspended...
Anyway, here is what I want to do:
I want to use the English language for the phone menus but when
I search the phonebook by letter I want to use the Greek keyboard.
The phone uses as a default keyboard, the keyboard of the language
of its current menus.
So if you have english menus and a list of contacts in another language,
e.g. Greek, when you browse the contacts list and want to go to
a specific letter e.g. K, you have to press many times the letter K to
reach the Greek K....
Does anybody know if there is a solution for this?
Any help is appreciated.
George.

Only way I can think of is the following:
Use for normal texteinput keyboard or handwriting recognition
goto control panel, text input, virtual keyboard
press more, configure, select greek layout, save
Write english or whatever with physical keyboard and handwriting, press the virtual keyboard symbol in the upper taskbar whenever you need to use greek alphabet as for contact search or contact editing.
If you need temporarily another language input in the virtual keboard, you can always press the little arrow in the upper left corner of the keyboard to select another one.

It will work like that, but the point is to have that setup permenantly on.
(Easy when using the phone with one hand)
English menus and Greek keyboard layout by default.
I am not sure if it can be done.
Thanks.

why dont you just have the phone with greek as the primary language? This will mean menus are in Greek i know that, but is that really a big problem?
Or on the other hand why dont you use the English K for the contact name and then teh rest of his name can be in Greek letters.
So if the name is kosta, use the English K and then write "osta" with the Greek letters, this way you can make sure that when you search you can use the English search and still find the Greek name quickly.

When searching for a contact you might use one or more
letters to find a specific contact from a large list. So its a problem.
The labels in the greek language are much longer that the
english ones and they don't look intuitive in the menus.
Many options are not properly translated as well.
The thing is that you buy such an expensive phone and it cannot
do the basics....
Another example is the sound recorder. It has a sound recorder
and you cannot use it to record during a telephone conversation
a small message or voice note! Even in the calendar, when you
want to make an appointment you cannot add a voice message
as well!
Another example : Somebody calls you from a number that you
have not yet stored in the contacts list. You then store the new
number and assign it a name. You go back to the calls list and
the number is still listed without a name...
I have a big list with similar examples for P1.
My 10 years old Sony Z5 is much more user friendly!

Do not forget, that P1i is a smartphone, so if you want to record something, get proper software for it. That is the point of a smartphone.

Exactly.
The thing is that P1i *already* has the recording application
in its bundled software.
Can someone tell me please how difficult would be for the
programmers of the phone to use the recording feature
for recording conversations, memos in the calendar and even a local
answering machine that will save you money from dialing your provider
to hear your voicemail?
Again, my 10 years old SONY Z5 has all these features!
So, I don't know if "smart" is the right word...
