I'm a new member, a Ericsson supporter, and I've been reading the Esato forum for more than a year since I've bought my T39m.

The fact for SE is, they're losing big money, share price is at its all-time low in Nasdaq, and of course losing market share from the previous no.1 in the mid to late nineties to currently no.5 behind Nokia, Motorola, Samsung and Siemens in that order.

Why Ericsson fall? I think the main reason is the so called "fashion" in mobile phone market, people, especially here in Asia tends to like small phones, without antenna, like games, and good looking phones.

Ericsson fail to catch up this trend at all....or maybe too little too late. Nokia, do it very well in the past few years, they made shit phones (techno-wise) but they're good looking and appeal most people. And also the reason why Samsung is so successful currently in Asia (good screen and sound, ppl don't care it haven't got GPRS, bluetooth or not). And the trigger of Ericsson failure is the love or hate t28, know as the "radiator" among my friends, poor software, battery as well as high radiation bring Ericsson brand equity down to nothing.

All the P800 admirer love the tech, usability, and so on with the phone (so am I). But is it the phone most people want? Other ppl say it's a brick, the color is ugly, the style is ugly, and so on...

Say for my t39m more than a year ago, it got everything by its time, but it still can't compete with things like Nokia 8210 or 8250 that without anything like bluetooth, EMS and GPRS. Why? Because Ericsson is doing the wrong thing in the wrong time and in the wrong place. Bluetooth is never a matter until late this year, and the handfree..was too expensive to have one at that time (though i got it myself, the first gen bluetooth handsfree ), GPRS was even not yet supported by some operator. These functions are useless to most ppl. Most people want a good looking phone with good games and without antenna....ah....Ericsson miss it all. period.

Then t68 comes into the party, it seems SE got it right....almost. But what happen when it roll out at the beginning? Shortage, true, shortage, production cannot up with the huge demand, logistic problem can't deal let the phone appear everywhere in the world...when SE fix all these matters, it's again...too little, too late, competitors kicks in and SE is almost kick out. Still, I admit that t68m/i is a very good phone by its time.

What happen to P800? too little too late, I'm afraid, although I'm still waiting it, my friends are all spending its money on Samsung 208/100, Nokia 7210/6100/6610, Panasonic GD87, Sharp GX10/12 and even buy a new Palm or PPC (luckily nobody want to go for the Finnish brick 7650 ) Yeah, I agree ppl on this forum said none of those devices can match P800 and P800 is a unique phone, but I again saying that SE is making another mistake again, timing is damn poor, marketing is damn poor, as every poor ppl here waiting since October and nobody from SE tell us what happen to P800.

My advice is.....get Nokia marketing manager to SE to do the marketing if the ppl there are still too stupid to realise that. But never let ur engineering away to ur competitors, SE is still the best in my opinion. And hope SE will get it right....soon.

P.S. Hopefully, I'll get a P800 when i go to HK this weekend as HK is the luckily chosen ONE by SE.

Nokia havnt come up with no more than SE, just same mobiles with various covers.... And since way back in the day ( talking 1½ year ) SE have been making phones with integregrated antenna....

I agree with the new guy on this...

It saddens me to say it but do appear to have a worrying lack of design. People want phones they can show to their friends and compared to Nokia's latest offerings, 's t300, t100 et al are worryingly ugly.

The t68 is a stroke of genius and was, when it came out, the most beautiful thing on the market.

However, have failed to make another startingly beautiful phone and seem to have resorted to square, blocky things.

Surely they can get back some of the style they had? They were pretty stylish before the merger and Sony do have a reputation for creating beautiful things.

Where did it go wrong?

If the phone is available now everywhere in the world, the answer may be yes....and mind that....the P800 is not everyone cup of tea. However, for most of us, need to wait until January, or even Feburary or March, which by that time the market will be totally different. Not everybody is as lucky as the chosen ones.

I think that SE's future lies in the T300. If that sells well then the masses will have acquainted themselves with SE, and SE phones will sell easier. SE has established itself with high end users, due to the success of the T68i, that is why i feel that it will have no problems selling the P800.

There is a a smart strategy in economics... First build your name with expensive high end products (i.e mercedes, bmw) then you will win over the masses when you release cheaper products. It does not always work, but it is a solid move!

I've heard from the news that Sony is not getting along well with Ericsson in the SE joing venture....Ericsson think that they may be the same or better off without Sony since they're bringing mostly technology to the table....Sony is just bringing..ah..MS, some multimedia, and their marketing ppl are not yet doing their job.

Well in my opinion, the p800 will not and can not save Sony Ericsson, the p800 is a fantastic device, but it is not for the mass market and will thus not sell enough units to by itself turn the company around (especially as SE as usual can't deliver enough units to the shops when it's new and hot...) Ericsson just must get better at logistics and get the devices to the shops in line with demand.

I don't think is doomed (yet) but the p800 is not enough by itself. The T68i is still selling very well for an expensive model, but it's over a year old and need replacement, even if there is nothing wrong with it. I think should consider doing a Nokia and make a "new" T300 with a new form factor to attract a few extra punters while the world is waiting for the T68 II with everything from the old one + better display, java, polyphonic ringtones etc.
