I have about 30 full albums on my phone, but I also have a lot (>500) unrelated mp3's from different artists. I would like to put them in 1 folder and have the possibility to play them randomly.
If I tranfer them to a folder on the phone (either via Media Mangager or via Windows Explorer), the Walkman player makes album entries for each track. I do not want that because you end up with *way* to many albums (that contain a single track).
I presume the 'compilations' options is there to help me but I can't figure out how to mark my 'loose' mp3's as being a part of a compilation. I even tried to set the album tag of those mp3's to 'Various artists' (though I do not really want to do that) but still no go.
Nothing in the manual about this. Can anybody help?

I believe compilation is determined by Album Title, try setting a few and doing an update. I'm not sure if the Update function picks up on changed ID3 tags. If not you will have to move the files off the W960 > Update Music > Move MP3s back > Update Music

I donīt have a w960 but i think i get what you saying...
On my w800 when i donīt want it to create various entries i put the files manually on the cellphone, instead of using SE programs. On w960 it should be the same: two folders one inside the other. the first is the name of the artist the second the album. So if you wanna make a various compilation create a folder 'various' then another 'various' inside and place your music there.
Hope i didnīt get it wrong

@torres.dark: yup, that works. Thanks! But I had to change the album tag also.
So, I created an "Various Artists" folder, another "Various Artists" folder in that, and set the album tag of all mp3's in that folder to "Various Artists".
It's a shame to loose the original album info. Pitty you can't just mark a song as being part of a compilation (me thinks iPods can do that).
