i think you should run se update service, this will reset the phone and when you turn it on afterwards it should ask what language, where did you get the phone from?

I got it from Play.com & when I went to do the update it send generic arabic - i have since changed it so that HWR is classed as Latin(?) and it now appears in english - bit of a pain though - still loving the phone though

There's an icon next to the x icon on the upper right hand corner of your screen (when you are using the handwriting recognition feature of p1i). it looks like an arabic character (judging from your observation that it loads arabic characters). TAP that icon ONCE. It will show another arabic looking character. Now your p1i should be able to recognise english words from then on. You dont need to download a language. UK English is pre loaded in the phone.

Alteratively look up in this forum how to change the cda of your phone to generic world 1, english is then the default & you get the firmware updates sooner too! The tool of choice to do this is XS++, once the cda is changed then all you have to do is re update with SEUS to get the latest firmware.
Find the software and info here:

Stuff about CDAs here:

Best of luck!
