I keep seeing this turning up: "my alarm only goes off once in a while", and "the alarm is silent when the phone is in silent mode, this is stupid". And, basically, what it comes down to it seems, is that SE didn't make a very well thought out design on the alarm- api. So that the settings in the alarms are not independent of the playback. I.e, you would switch off the sound globally, and that would make any playback silent.
I'm just wondering - how much of a problem is this? Is it enough for anyone to write a few letters to SE about it..? Because, if that's the case, the closest solution to that problem might be to implement an api of the kind you would need to make fairly sophisticated profiles - or something to access the sound- settings globally from a program. (Because allowing a program to override the sound- settings wouldn't work).
(I mean, because that's what profiles would be - some program being allowed to change the settings and tick off the silent mode for alarms and ringing noise so on, through some program logic or other).
So - any interest? A wiki- entry, perhaps?

lol. Yeah, me too.
But I suppose it would be nice to have a profile- program with a few presets, and a timer for example.
It's a bit like the mail- app, no? It would be really useful to have an option to control when you should connect, and when you should have push enabled, and so on. And why not push those options to external programs? ..Laziness on the part of SE. Lack of imagination and possibilities for some solutions.

I would like the option of setting an alarm to incremental volume (like you can do with your ringtone). I wake up with my heart in my throat quite often cuz it's so damn loud in the morning!
