Does anybody know if it will be possible to upgrade the p800 in the future by downloading new software releases from the Internet and transferring it to the phone

No it isn’t possible to upgrade the telephone software I have seen the memory struck or off p800 it have to bi don at a ericsson service point, and it is wonder full telephone have it for a week no.
