> Mobile Phone Radiation Affects Sleep : US Study
Bookmark topic
Research raises new concerns about the effects of mobile devices.
Mobile phones severely disrupt sleep patterns, according to scientific research into their impact on human rest, funded by the Mobile Manufacturers Association.
The research undertaken by the Electromagnetic Academy based at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in the United States, exposed 71 men and women, aged between 18 and 45, to mobile phone radiation as they prepared to sleep.
According to the study, monitoring under laboratory conditions showed the initial ‘light’ phases of sleep in the subjects were affected. In addition, “exposure to 884 MHz wireless signals, components of sleep, believed to be important for recovery from daily wear and tear, are adversely affected.” The research also found that those exposed to mobile phones during their sleep appear to have more headaches, than those not exposed.
The findings coincide with calls from UK company Exradia, manufacturers of the first device proven to neutralize potentially dangerous mobile phone radiation, for more government research into the health issues being raised.
David Schick, Exradia chief executive, said, “This study is yet another example of how using mobile phones can have a detrimental effect on humans. It is critical that the UK Government now undertakes a formal public inquiry into this issue.”
France recently became the latest country to advise against excessive use of mobile phones, particularly by children. Other countries who’ve issued similar advice include Sweden, the UK, Israel and India.

To what extent will they go to prove mobile phones are bad to the health? They are not! Apart from some "studies" and "experiments", never ever have i heard someone actually being effected negatively from a mobile phone radiation.
And another thing, if mobile frequency or radiation can hurt us, then shouldnt WiFi and cordless phone signal do the same?

The radiation may not be that highly dangerous but it does have an effect. As for headaches I know that from experiance. But then for poor concentration, it may be be partly true and mostly correct when you refer to teens. As for the deep sleep issues that is true with every one else who mostly surf the net on mobile before going to sleep.

That's interesting but I'm not convinced. I'd have to read more detailed info to know if the sleep disruption is simply from becoming more alert through concentration or from a biological reaction to the EMF. Somehow I doubt the latter.
For instance, after watching TV last night and then writing down some important notes for work, I found it difficult to get to sleep. So I got up and read for about 30 mins at which point I found I couldn't keep my eyes open. I went to bed and had no problem sleeping. And I always keep my V630i on the bedside table - as an alarm clock.
So:
Should I sue the manufacturer of my TV?
Should use of stationery at night be regulated by government?
Should health warnings be printed on books saying "May cause drowsiness - do not drive afterwards"? They do this with some medication already.
I sleep better knowing that using my V630i as an alarm is infinately more reliable than a mains powered alarm clock.

BTW, I believe my V630i uses UTMS 2100 Mhz as first choice followed by GPRS 1900 Mhz when necessary. Does this mean I'll be Ok because its not 884Mhz?
I visited that Exradia website and it looks like hocus pocus to me. Blocking so-called negative EMF by adding more EMF? I wasn't born yesterday.
I hope more research is done which settles this once and for all but I'd hate to see Mobile-hating crackpots getting rich on endless research grants...

Dangers of cell phone radiation
Every day, we’re swimming in a sea of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) produced by electrical appliances, power lines, wiring in buildings, and a slew of other technologies that are part of modern life. From the dishwasher and microwave oven in the kitchen and the clock radio next to your bed, to the cellular phone you hold to your ear—sometimes for hours each day—exposure to EMR is growing and becoming a serious health threat.
But there’s a huge public health crisis looming from one particular threat: EMR from cellular phones—both the radiation from the handsets and from the tower-based antennas carrying the signals—which studies have linked to development of brain tumors, genetic damage, and other exposure-related conditions.1-9 Yet the government and a well-funded cell phone industry media machine continue to mislead the unwary public about the dangers of a product used by billions of people. Most recently, a Danish epidemiological study announced to great fanfare the inaccurate conclusion that cell phone use is completely safe.10
George Carlo, PhD, JD, is an epidemiologist and medical scientist who, from 1993 to 1999, headed the first telecommunications industry-backed studies into the dangers of cell phone use. That program remains the largest in the history of the issue. But he ran afoul of the very industry that hired him when his work revealed preventable health hazards associated with cell phone use.
In this article, we look at why cell phones are dangerous; Dr. Carlo’s years-long battle to bring the truth about cell phone dangers to the public; the industry’s campaign to discredit him and other scientists in the field; and what you can do to protect yourself now.
Cell Phones Reach the Market without Safety Testing
The cellular phone industry was born in the early 1980s, when communications technology that had been developed for the Department of Defense was put into commerce by companies focusing on profits. This group, with big ideas but limited resources, pressured government regulatory agencies—particularly the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)—to allow cell phones to be sold without pre-market testing. The rationale, known as the “low power exclusion,” distinguished cell phones from dangerous microwave ovens based on the amount of power used to push the microwaves. At that time, the only health effect seen from microwaves involved high power strong enough to heat human tissue. The pressure worked, and cell phones were exempted from any type of regulatory oversight, an exemption that continues today. An eager public grabbed up the cell phones, but according to Dr. George Carlo, “Those phones were slowly prompting a host of health problems.”
Today there are more than two billion cell phone users being exposed every day to the dangers of electromagnetic radiation (EMR)—dangers government regulators and the cell phone industry refuse to admit exist. Included are: genetic damage, brain dysfunction, brain tumors, and other conditions such as sleep disorders and headaches.1-9 The amount of time spent on the phone is irrelevant, according to Dr. Carlo, as the danger mechanism is triggered within seconds. Researchers say if there is a safe level of exposure to EMR, it’s so low that we can’t detect it.
The cell phone industry is fully aware of the dangers. In fact, enough scientific evidence exists that some companies’ service contracts prohibit suing the cell phone manufacturer or service provider, or joining a class action lawsuit. Still, the public is largely ignorant of the dangers, while the media regularly trumpets new studies showing cell phones are completely safe to use. Yet, Dr. Carlo points out, “None of those studies can prove safety, no matter how well they’re conducted or who’s conducting them.” What’s going on here? While the answer in itself is simplistic, how we got to this point is complex.

I suggest you study up on the theory of noise cancelling headphones. By mirroring the frequency, one cancels the other out. It is most definitely possible and indeed a sound scientific principle.
However, the exradia solution uses a different concept. Research into emr affects proves that cells harden in response to repetitive high frequencies, but that they remain unaffected when the emr is non-constant (ie
random or melodic). Think how you get tense at a repetitive whining noise that goes on and on, but a whining noise that varies in pitch frequently doesn't make you feel tense, in fact it can be relaxing. The exradia system superimposes a random frequency over the steady frequency therefore removing the condition that causes the cells to "tense up".
Bit like playing Iron Maiden over the top of a jack hammer - you won't notice the jack hammer anywhere as badly as you would if Iron Maiden wasn't playing.

@ max
I am well aware of the uses of 'out of phase' frequencies in noise cancellation, but adapting this to EMF is just nonsense. If EMF causes non thermal effects then more EMF - even out of phase EMF - will create more problems.
As far as whining noises are concerned, they are all irritating doesn't matter whether the source is screaming children or a warning buzzer on the car... FYI an every day product that uses variable pitch technology is the common or garden variety car tyre. Check out the tread blocks of varying sizes, they're not accidental.
Did you notice this on the Exradia site under 'How Angel works' ?
"Living matter is composed of electrically charged particles that are in constant motion thereby generating electromagnetic fields. These EMFs form part of the natural electromagnetic background and are characterised by random both in time and space. Biological cells do not respond to these natural fields."
Its the whole new-age 'We're all just energy and magnets can heal' pseudo-science thing wrapped up in a new package with a flash new bow for the new century. And as usual there is a product at the end of the story for you to buy to cater to your superstitions.
BTW, I've used a jack hammer on several occasions, the last being during the filming of a TV commercial. I'd prefer to listen to a Jack Hammer than Iron Maiden anyday...
