you might want to try the sony ericsson website for your country. go to the phone setup software and setup section and follow instructions there
i have set up gmail here in india. it works fine

Hotmail don't provide POP or IMAP access so it's not possible to download the emails to the phone.
You can try
http://mobile.msn.com/ (or whatever the Live version is nowdays) via the browser for a slimmed down Hotmail.
