Hi,
I'm not sure if this wil help on other firmware other than R1CA037! But you can try it anyway...
If you have installed the additional modules in the Photo Mate application, try uninstalling all of them and see if the phone gets any faster.
It made a decent difference on my phone. I used to get an 'Application uses too much memory' error after I installed all the modules.
I removed them all and the phone is more responsive in the Media menu. ( I have about 500 pictures and 100 mp3s in there)

My tips..
Try moving default pictures, ringtones,theme's to memory card...note some files cant to moved..dont worry..move other files..
Now your phone will be slightly more responsive..!
Try to keep the network to gsm only not 3g if you arent using the latter...
